"Separation" By AfL :)

The Sliders (Mallory, Diana, Remmy, and Maggie) slide right in the middle of a hurrican with only a half hour until their next slide. They decide that they better get as far as possible from the shore so they can slide safely, but they need transportation to accomplish this. The Sliders find a car that was left behind when the people evacuated the town so Mallory hotwires it and they head inland.

Unfortunately, they run into downed trees and electrical wires which delay their departure and with only 2 minutes to slide, they stop the car. They know it's dangerous to slide in this weather, but they don't have any choice. Remmy opens the vortex and Mallory jumps through first. A burst of lightening hits the vortex just as he passes through. The other sliders are horrified, wondering what happened to Mallory and what the lightening did to the vortex. They don't want to be stuck there for 29 years so they all take the chance and slide.

At the other end of the tunnel, Mallory emerges in the middle of Golden Gate Park in a clearing near some woods, but instantly becomes unconscious. A second later another individual emerges but lands just within the trees amongst the brush and also become unconscious. Then Remmy, Maggie, and Diana arrive. They see Mallory laying on the ground unconscious and fearful that he may be dead, run over to him immediately to check for signs of life, not noticing the other person in the brush. He's alive and they are able to wake him up. He says he's extremely tired and thirsty, but doesn't know why, so they explain about the lightening bolt.

Maggie and Remmy help Mallory up and head out of the park. As they are leaving the park, the other individual who emerged from the vortex just after Mallory wakes up and tries to stand up. We only see his back. He then loses his balance and falls against a tree while still standing. Then we see who it is. It's Quinn!

Meanwhile, the Sliders, concerned for Mallory, take him to the nearest hospital. They check him in and the Sliders wait around for the prognosis. They never look at the timer.

Cut back to Quinn. Quinn, dazed and confused, looks around to see where he is. He recognizes it as being Golden Gate Park and wonders how he got there. He doesn't remember much. Then he realizes that his friends and brother are not with him. He staggers out of the park and heads for the nearest payphone to call around to the local hotels. His friends haven't checked into the Dominion or any of the other area hotels. Being tired and confused he thinks the worst...they slid without him. Even though deep down he doesn't want to believe it.

Meanwhile at the hospital, Diana finally asks Remmy how long they have on this world while sitting in the waiting room. They then discover that the timer has been shorted out and assume it was caused by the effects the lightening bolt had on the vortex. This worries them because Diana is a scientist but doesn't know much about the timer's operation. They believe they are stuck on this world. Although, Diana says she will give it a shot. What can they lose? The doctor comes out and tells them that Mallory is going to be okay. Just signs of exhaustion and dehydration. He just needs some rest and some fluids. They are going to just keep him overnight. This cheers them up a little. They spend the night at the hospital waiting room.

Quinn decides to search out his double, if he has one on this world, to find out whether or not his double developed sliding. Perhaps he can build another timer and track his friends' wormhole. He flags down a cab and goes to his house. He barely makes it up the stairs and rings the doorbell. A young woman answers. It's Quinn's younger sister on this world. Her name is Jen. She thinks at first that Quinn is *her* brother who slid 4 years ago, but Quinn explains otherwise. He practically falls inside the door and she helps him to the couch. He explains his situation to her and she tells Quinn that he is welcome to use any of *her* brother's equipment as soon as he's able. (Jen rents the house from her and Quinn's mother. Mrs. Mallory moved back to the eastcoast.)

Jen's worried about Quinn and wants to take him to the hospital, but Quinn refuses. He rests at the house overnight and tries calling the hotels again in the morning. Still no luck. So he starts building the timer. He needs parts for so he asks Jen to do him a favor and go to a computer store for him. She agrees and heads off to the Doppler Computer store where her brother worked before he slid.

Cut back to the Sliders. Remmy and Maggie slept in the waiting room. Diana on the other hand stayed up all night trying to figure out the timer. There were a few parts that could be replaced, but she isn't sure if the timer would work even if she did replace them. Mallory is released around noon, and they check into The Dominion Hotel. Maggie stays with Mallory while Diana and Remmy go to the Doppler computer store to get parts for the timer.

Remmy and Diana practically follow Jen around the store. Everywhere Jen turns, there they are and finally they all realize that they are looking for similar computer parts. Diana asks Jen about it and Jen figures out that these must be the friends Quinn was looking for. She tells them who she is and about Quinn showing up at her doorstep. Remmy, of course, is estatic and Diana happy and relieved because Quinn can fix the timer, she hopes. Jen takes Diana and Remmy back to The Dominion, and they tell Maggie the good news. Maggie is now estatic; although, Mallory doesn't know what to think. Mallory feels well enough to go with them so they all go back to the Mallory household. There's a huge happy reunion, but then Quinn asks about Colin. They tell him the bad news. Quinn gets upset and starts blaming himself. They tell him not to. Although, he swears he will do whatever he can to get his brother back. Quinn fixes the timer while Diana watches. The timer comes back to life and they find out they only have 15 minutes until they slide.

Quinn now has to make a decision. He can stay on this world and try to figure out a way to fix Colin's problem, or he can go with the rest of them and risk 5 people going through the vortex while trying to anchor Colin during their travels. Quinn makes the decision that he'll stay and when he gets Colin anchored they will track their wormholes and follow them later. Diana volunteers to stay so she can help Quinn, but Quinn convinces her that the others need her with them. Their time is up. Rembrandt activates the vortex and turns to Quinn. Are you sure you won't change your mind? Quinn says he's staying. Diana and Mallory wish him well and jump into the vortex. Remmy and Maggie say their sad good-byes and also wish him luck. Quinn assures them that he and Colin will eventually catch up to them. They jump through. Quinn stares at the vortex for a second and then looks at Jen with a look of fear in his eyes. He's having second thoughts. Maybe he won't be able to catch up to them later. He says good-bye and hugs Jen, thanking her for her help. Then Quinn jumps through the vortex. It closes right behind him.

And the adventure continues...

That season 5 could have used this idea in the middle of the season. Except Quinn stays.

I like your version though.

good, here's some suggestions...

I believe Mallory already hotwired a car before, how much do you want to play on the same idea?

Why would the timer be affected by the lightning, if the vortex got hit, not the timer?

Instead of exhaustion and dehyrdation, Mallory experienced shock after absorbing a lightning bolt. Most people do. (minor point)

Elaborate more on Quinn reuniting with his friends, that should be a joyous one, plus, how will Mallory feel about Quinn coming back, he seemed to vie for Maggie's attention when she was trying to get her Quinn back. he might feel threatened by Quinn coming back. Explore that.

Keep writing. Maybe they'll use it for a movie idea. Although, in a movie, I'd like to see the other characters' reunification explored.

Peace.

I've Thought about "Jen" too/A Series?

Hey, great, fantastic idea! It's interesting that I like it because I really didn't like the new character lineup, but your story actually makes it feel like the old one. I'd love to share a couple of drafts of stories I have a get feedback from you. If you're interested, send me an e-mail (ithorian_bro@earthlink.com).

I've thought about the sister that our Quinn never knew and imagined a brand new series about her going in search of her lost
Quinn... Perhaps it could be a Sliders: Next Generation?

this is really good!

This is really cool. This should be an episode. ANything to get Quinn back. And maybe the Professor. Thats what the show needs. The old gang back. Remmy, Quinn, Wade and The Professor.

Hey ! Now We're Cooking !

Hey = That's not bad !!! Are you paying attention Slider writers ???
The only thing I would change, is Quinn's Mother would never leave
the area if she were waiting the return of her beloved son.
She's been a loving mother on all the worlds, and would not leave.

And you need to put Wade and the Professor's names in there,
so they will also get back into the show. I have written several things on these replies with story ideas on how the Professor and
Wade get back into the series; and I also explain how Maggie is not married to 'our' Quinn, but is really married to a double that
caused our Quinn to miss the slide, where the last Quinn we saw
took his place at that slide where Maggie joined up.
Which ties in with how we get our Professor back also.
Remember, there were a lot of timer devices and parts
laying around whicle Maggie's original husband in the wheel chair
was working.
There could be an episode that takes us back to that world before it blew up, that takes us behind the scenes that we could not see before, because of the main theme of THAT show took us into the
parts where all the other things were happening, with that leader
sucking out all the brain tissue, and about the little boy.
So there's lots of room to go back in a flashback, and show the parts we could not know was happenning also at that time; like Quinn being replaced by his selfish double that caused him to
miss the slide to the new world.
Of course if they'd decide to follow my suggestions, then the story you just wrote here (which is very good), would release the Quinn who is not "our" Quinn, but the one that took 'our' Quinn's place at that slide, and thus that's how I explain how 'our' Quinn is not
married to Maggie, but mutely connected to our Wade, who has silently loved Quinn since day one. Marriage ruins a story series
as this one is, so Wade and Quinn ARE connected and love each other very much, but instead of Marriage (which everyone seems to think is the ONLY outlet for love), they have a deep devotion for each other that enhances the story, without being demonstrative.
How's that ?
No matter how they do it, the writers MUST get the original cast back on track. The loyalty in that slider family cannot be matched
by ANY other characters (cast).
The Professor is the backbone of it all, and is very much needed.
He and Quinn were a good and educating parnership for us.
We NEED them. Rembrant Brown also offers great balance for this sliding family. His original humor could not be matched, and
his character makes a completion that no one else could.
Wade offered educated common sense, that rounded out the 'family'
and we NEED all the originals back, and sliding again !
