Group X HQ
9:25 AM

In her office, dellyone was pacing in front of her desk. She was worried about the hostage release, but didn’t confide in anyone including PoliteSliderFan. This was something she didn’t want anyone to know. At this point, she barely trusted any of the senior staff. She stopped and scratched her head just as the door opened, light streamed into the room.

Rendezvous Point
9:25 AM

The three faction representatives arrived at a rundown warehouse in the business district. Several heavily armed guards met them at the chain link fence surrounding the property. Their credentials were checked and the two cars were swept for explosives. When the guards were satisfied, they were allowed into the parking lot. The BFA sent the neutral reps Logan91 and lilsweetheart with 50 million dollars to retrieve Mychand and ABL leader BritSlider. GOCUB rep Echos carried 20 million dollars divided into two briefcases. At the far end of the parking lot stood the lone building, a neglected warehouse overgrown with weeds – their destination.

As the creaky doors slid open, bright sunlight streamed into the abandoned warehouse. The red light above the warehouse door lit up as the wary ladies and three guards entered. PoliteSliderFan closed her laptop as she pushed her chair back from the old wooden table. Two guards followed closely behind PoliteSliderFan as she walked to the entrance to greet the representatives.

“Where are the hostages? I don’t see them. Are they unharmed?” asked Logan91 as she held her two briefcases tightly, a handcuff around each wrist.

“This better not be a trick,” added lilsweetheart as she looked around the empty warehouse. “The BFA does not take kindly to being fooled. We want to end this war. Once we have BritSlider, the BFA has won.”

Echos, swinging the briefcases slightly, glared at PoliteSliderFan as she spoke. “I thought we had your word that the hostages would be released once we handed the ransom over to you. I still can’t believe you two are acting like this.”

“You have my word as your friend that the hostages will be returned safely once our transaction is over,” said a sincere PoliteSliderFan. The disbelief and contempt in Echos’ eyes unnerved PoliteSliderFan, causing her to look elsewhere.

*What have I done? I’ve already lost a friend to war. I don’t want to lose Echos. How many more will I lose before this war is over? I’m going to retire once this is over. It was fun playing mercenary in the beginning, but now too many lives are being wasted and friendships are broken. It’s not worth it anymore. Look what’s it done to dellyone. Her behavior has steadily deteriorated, since the hostages were taken. Pretty soon she’ll be irrational and I have to step in. The last person who tried to usurp her leadership got pumped full of lead. That’s an unacceptable way to go to say the least. Damn I wish I never got into this business. I promise you Echos that the hostages will be released even if it kills me. At least you will know that I tried to keep my promise to you. * raced through PoliteSliderFan’s mind.

She composed herself then turned her attention to the others. “dellyone is being cautious. That is why all of you have been asked to come here. The hostages are being held at a different location. We will go there once we determine that all is in order.”

“Different location?” gasped the astounded representatives. This little twist didn’t sit well with them. This made a rescue attempt more difficult.

“There are two rooms over in the corner for all of you to take turns and change into sweats and tennis shoes,” said PoliteSliderFan as she pointed to the small rooms, flanked by two female guards, located on the left side of the warehouse. “Take those wires and tracking devices off willingly or we will do it for you. In the meantime, we will count the money and place them in new briefcases. We want to be sure that you brought the amount agreed upon and that there are no tracking devices and explosives. dellyone hates surprises.”

The three representatives looked at each other and silently agreed. Echos was going to be the last one to change since she was alone. The guards escorted them to a long wooden table. One side held several money counters and on the other was sophisticated scanning equipment.

As the guards swept the briefcases, they found two tracking devices amongst the money. Found inside one of the cases was enough C-4 to blow a city block.

“Echos, this looks like the handiwork of Sabre_Edge. Why?” A dumbfounded PoliteSliderFan stared at her.

A disgusted Echos spat out, “So you don’t hurt anyone every again. All I’m hearing from you are lies. You both *were* my friends.” A single tear fell down Echos’ cheek.

*Were* reverberated in PoliteSliderFan’s mind. She passed the last checkpoint now. There was no turning back. “Echos, give me the detonator. I know you have it on you.” An adamant Echos didn’t budge. A guard moved a wand over her and removed her watch. Another guard promptly neutralized the C-4 in the case. As the money was counted in Echos’ presence, it was transferred to the new briefcases.

After Echos changed into the sweats and tennis shoes, the representatives were given kevlar vests to wear. PoliteSliderFan wanted to be sure that if the reps were caught in crossfire during a rescue they wouldn’t get hurt. The BFA reps were ushered into a black van while Echos and PoliteSliderFan went inside the second one.

Hostage Release Site

At the bottom of a hill, an anxious dellyone paced back and forth. Two guards watched over the three bound and gagged hostages nearby. She looked up and saw twin quarter mile covered escalators snaking up the steep hill. A rescue attempt increased the possibility of collateral damage – something she desperately hoped to avoid.

dellyone got word that they had arrived. To facilitate faster communications and the elimination of error, all their comms were hooked up to the intercomm system. At the top of the hill, the vans stopped at the entrance of the covered escalator. The passengers exited with their valuable luggage in tow.

“We’re here,” said PoliteSliderFan over her comm. Her voice echoed around the area.

Mychand, BritSlider and Vigeant were unbound and their gags were taken off. They were escorted to the escalator going up with Vigeant first and Mychand last. The guard returned to his previous position. The briefcases were placed onto the escalator going down. All watched as the hostages and cases began their long journey to the opposite ends.

At the bottom of the hill, PoliteSliderFan made her move. “dellyone, Sabre_Edge isn’t here to save you this time. Group X is under my leadership now. Now stand down.” She motioned to the guard to take her away.

dellyone hissed, “Over my dead body. Green light!” On her way to the escalator, she mowed down the guard.

PoliteSliderFan ran after her as she yelled over the comm. “Stop the escalator going down. Everyone clear the area! Mychand, BritSlider and Vigeant run for it!”

At the top of the hill, the representatives ducked behind the building near the escalators. The guards ignored the reps and watched dellyone and PoliteSliderFan as they entered the escalator. The guards ran for the descending escalator to make a grab for the money. Unfortunately for them, dellyone blew the top portion of the escalator right after they entered it.

Over the intercomm, PoliteSliderFan begged, “You have to tell him that he was drugged and he went psychotic at the sight of blood.”

“Hell no. I already paid him off. That’s the only thing I have over him and I’m not giving that up for anything,” shouted dellyone as she grabbed a briefcase.

Group X HQ

“Sir, two sets of rockets have been fired. Targets are Universal Studios Hollywood and here. Impact in one minute,” said the man working intel.

The tactical officer exclaimed, “The defensive countermeasures are offline.” All looked up from their work in amazement.

The senior officer sighed, “dellyone must have disarmed them before she left. Make the necessary preparations.” All went back to work knowing that this was their final time working together.

Hostage Release Site

As Mychand trips, gunfire erupts at the bottom of the other escalator. dellyone and PoliteSliderFan were heard screaming over the intercomm. BritSlider goes back and helps Mychand up. As he pulls her up, her amethyst beret falls to the wayside. After he picks it up, his shoelace gets stuck on the side of the escalator.

“Time to impact. 20… 19… 18…” came over the intercomm.

“Go. I’ll be alright,” pleaded BritSlider as he worked on getting his shoe off.

“I’m not going to leave you,” said a stubborn Mychand.

“There’s no time. Let’s go. Now!” Vigeant grabbed Mychand’s arm and pulled her along.

“10… 9… 8…”

Finally, Mychand and Vigeant make it out of the escalator and duck behind the same building the representatives are hiding. All anxiously wait for him.

Mychand’s beret flies out of the escalator with three seconds left, but he wasn’t nowhere to be seen.

“BritSlider!” all yelled right just as the rockets hit the escalators, completely destroying that area. The beret hits the ground a few feet away from the building.

The representatives and remaining hostages sweep the area in vain for BritSlider, dellyone and PoliteSliderFan.

“She tried to keep her promise,” commented a weeping Echos. All nodded in agreement.

A few hours later all return to their respective bases. The three are assumed dead, but a search still continues.

Dec. 10 Boyz HQ

According to a dellyone’s letter, she reveals Group X is the military division of GOCUB shocking Sabre_Edge and Yeontoo. A check in the amount of 5 million dollars for services rendered is also in the envelope.

BFA HQ

Slider_Sarah pulls out the envelope that dellyone gave her for her birthday.

“50 million dollars!” she screams as she sees the postdated check.

Beach World

“To ‘The Vigeant Show’ now seen on 5,403,292 worlds,” toasted Vigeant.

“To the four of us for being partners in VigCon,” toasted PoliteSliderFan.

“To coining the phrase interdimensional television conglomerate,” toasted dellyone.

“To friends,” Echos toasted.

All four watched the waves roll in on their jointly owned island continent.

Caribbean Island

The bartender asks the cheerful couple seated at the end of the bar, “What will you two be having?”

“Anything diet,” she answered as she smiled at her man.

He smiled back and replied, “Fosters.”
