TTCoBS: The "Other" Board

The True Confessions of Brand_S

The "Other" Board

Since a month after I joined, there has always been another message board alongside this one. That one dedicated itself to peace and quietude, rather than the loud, constant fighting that happened in this cesspool. A great idea on paper. In reality, there were almost as many mofos there whose asses were in dire need of cap-busting. But good times were had by all. Most notably, Echos invented "Party Time," which just needs to be seen to be believed.

· Echos
Echos I always liked. Her real name has this interesting assonance to it. Moreover, she's a very humble, nice girl. I'm sure she and VM would look really cute together in real-life, too. That wacky couple. Even when Echos was annoyed with me for using lowbrow humor in one of her stories, (What could POSSIBLY be unclean about David Peckinpah dropping his pants and answering a question with, "Cuz I got one of THESE?!") there was something about her I just liked... as a friend, of course, VM! It's just a shame that Echos and I don't talk too much. We used to talk a lot on ICQ... until I gained an obsessed fan from elsewhere who started scaring me via ICQ, and I uninstalled the program.

So who's VM? Vortex Master! He's our resident Israeli "Sliders" fan, and Echos' very very good friend.

· Vortex Master
With me having Palestinian blood, and him from Israel, I can proudly say that I think he and I represent peace in the Middle East... Yeah. Fucking. Right. Seriously, he and I have always gotten along great, which I'm really happy about because he's one of the few people who really likes my writings. He's a great guy. He's very patient and he takes a genuine interest in my many endeavors. That, and he and Echos would look so CUTE together!

Echos and Vortex Master are two of the most idealistic people you'll ever meet (from a political science standpoint). I like them a lot, although with my foul-mouthed, politically realistic, hateful cynicism, I'm quite surprised that I befriended these two, who are like modern-day hippies! ... I'm also surprised that I'm a fan of Journey. An 80s hair band. Who'da thunk it?

So, anyhow, the "other" message board has taken many forms, had many URLs, and been through many reformations, but it's always been the best option for the peaceful "Sliders" fan in us all. It really is a much better place than this. I've promoted it as the safe alternative to this place, and I will until it's not there anymroe. The people there are just a lot nicer, especially the man nice enough to provide the current "other" message board: vortex62.

· vortex62
The man himself, Steve of Steve's Parallel World! This is the only "Sliders" fan I've ever met who has a way of avoiding all the petty fights and other bullshit. He's one of the best sources for "Sliders" information to boot! He and I have always gotten along great, for which I'm very thankful. He's also the only sailor I've ever met who doesn't talk like me! (DOUBLE Fuckin' A!) When the "Sliders" community's slow death finally, inevitably concludes, he'll be one of the names all the few remaining Sliders fans remember.

I'll introduce you to two more of the friends I've had the pleasure of making there...

· Vigeant
Vigeant is a lot more patient than he should have to be. Lord knows I've accidentally tested his patience enough times. Everything I regret most about my time in the Sliders community involves Vigeant. Namely, never having handed over the Dominion War for his site, and being unable to do anything significant for Shabadoo Games. To this day I feel terrible and overwhelmingly guilty for those two things. I'm just glad he and I are still friends... At least that whole assassination attempt of his seems to have blown over.

· Sabre_Edge
I remember that it took a while for Sabre_Edge to settle into a groove on the "other" message board, but once he did, he was a groovin', jivin', boogiein' machine! BURN, BABY, BURN! (Disco Inferno!) Sabre_Edge and I pretty much think the exact same way. It's really cool. I just wish there were more people who could do the Robot the way he and I do!

If you ever want to visit that place (and I recommend it over this one), just go to Steve's Parallel World!

Uh-uh. Sorry, but I will NEVER consider a board that gets about one post every three days better than one where practically EVERYONE from aforementioned slow board AND a million other funny/cool/interesting people talk CONSTANTLY about myriad subjects.

• Yesterday, the "other" board had posts or replies from MSR, SweetOne, and Vortex62.

• Yesterday, THIS board had posts or replies from MSR, SweetOne, Vortex62, HunterD, Informant, TemporalFlux, Joey_Starr, TIP, HurriKain, Recall317, DMD, Tigs, Vance, SL4ever, stuslide, Jayelle Carey, Slider_Quinn21, Slider_Sarah, and SpaceTime.

· So far this morning, we've had posts or replies from you, me, MSR, Recall, SweetOne, SL4ever, DMD, LiquidSunshine, JessieMallory, TimeFluxEMC2, SpaceTime, Vance, and Alternity_Orange.

· So far this morning, the "other" board has had NOTHING.

From ThomasMalthus to HurriKain, from Slider_Quinn21 to FogBoy, from QBall79 to SL4ever, from darkslider to SpaceTime, and with all the fanfic said people have posted here in between, this place IS the Sliders community... and no matter how many alternatives to it are touted, I don't see that changing.

Nor should it.

Actually I did start the ezboard to keep the Universal
Forums alive mainly for the Party. I agree with Blink on
the Dominion being the actual "Sliders Community". I just
consider my board as a safe haven (moderated) and a backup
just in case something does happen to this board. For how
long that board will stay up I don't know. Only time will
tell....

S - It has been a pleasure for you being at my board I
want to apologize for not reading any of your fanfic and
the others who has posted their fanfic there. For some
reason I just can't get into fanfic. Why? I do not know.
I still recall those days in the ole Chat room. I have seen
some pretty wild stuff go on in there and I do miss those
days. I do hope you continue to post at my board. Well
actually you better cause you are one of the Moderators.
hehe =)

Journey rules!!! Just saw them live a few months back in Scranton! Great show!!!!

On a side not, I must express the honor in having my handle mentioned in this series(even if it is in a reply that contradicts something you said) :)

Also about Fanfic. I do not read them due to time constraints and lack of overall interest BUT I did read the entire Dominion War(including the lost episodes) and like it lots!

> THE OTHER BOARD IS GOOD. QUALITATIVELY IT IS BETTER.

Well then, Twizzler, why don't YOU move there and raise its property values even higher? Oh, right... because your smack-talking ass would be banned in five minutes.

And no, I'm still not convinced that cross-postings of birthday wishes and Trek/X-Files news that we get here anyway (with many more replies), combined with announcements of site updates from the OWNER of the board, offers any sort of qualitative boost over what you can find right here.

Again, HHH! That happened, what, TWO YEARS AND TWO DAYS AGO?!

Your complete lack of context makes it sound like you're quoting me on the state of the board this week.

As for the shabby treatment of newbies, well:

> SpaceTime-
> "Just don't ask what happened to Charlie or Jerry -
> you will be flamed." You should help us work on
> fixing that.

You didn't finish reading, did you?...

Right.

I thought it was 'bowl of dick'... you going soft in your old age?
