Hey, 3 in a row! This is not good, folks. I know we're having a party and everyone is enjoying jello and what-not, but somebody's gotta post regular stuff too besides me. I don't like being a post hawg. Besides, I'm not from Arkansas. <if you're not a football person, you don't get it>

Okay, moving along.

United We Slide, Divided . . . We Disappear

Chapter Twenty-three

When the plane hit ground, Maggie had the door
open before the pilot could come to a stop. She and
Remmy jumped out and started running back up the
beach. When Colin stepped out from their safe spot, he
noticed the pair running toward them was Maggie and
Remmy. He couldn’t believe his eyes. They were
supposed to slide days ago!

“Farm-boy, you son-of-gun, you. Just look at
your ugly mug,” Remmy yelled as he approached the
pair. When the hard-packed sand gave way to the soft
fine powdery sand, he lost his footing in the excitement,
but caught himself and continued until he had reached
his old pal.

“Colin!” Maggie yelled in relief. She grabbed
him around the neck as he scooped her up in his arms
and twirled her around. Kelly took in the scene with just
a hint of jealousy, but let it fade quickly. She was too
glad to be found to let it last.

As Colin let Maggie down, he looked anxiously
toward the plane but saw only the pilot emerging. He
should have known Quinn wouldn’t be along. He
swallowed the lump of regret rising in his throat and
turned his thoughts toward his friends.

“What are you guys doing here?” he asked
innocently.

“Looking for you, you big lug!” Maggie said
with a swat to his arm. “What do you mean by that
question? You didn’t think we were going to let you
disappear on us and not try to find you, did you?”

“But you were suppose to slide,” Colin
answered. He couldn’t believe they would strand
themselves on this world forever.

“We did, Farm-boy, but we came back. We had
the co-ordinates to this world saved in the timer so we
could return. Piece of cake,” Remmy said with a slap
on the back to his friend.

Maggie rolled her eyes at Remmy’s explanation.
She seemed to remember his worried doubts about
whether or not they could handle the situation of sliding
and returning without Quinn. Quinn. She had noticed
Colin’s glance toward the plane in search for his brother.
Would he bring it up or should she?

Colin grabbed both of them at once in a hug. “I
am so glad to see the two of you.” When he stepped
back, Kelly caught his eye and he turned red. “I am so
sorry,” he said grabbing Kelly and pulling her to him.
“Kelly, these are my friends I told you about, Maggie
Beckett and Rembrandt Brown.

Kelly held out her hand to one, and then the
other. Her eyes lit up at Rembrandt, knowing he had
been with Wade in the early days of his sliding journey.
She couldn’t wait to talk to him about her sister.

“How do you do? It’s so nice to meet both of
you,” she said.

“Guys, this is Kelly. Kelly Welles.” He said her
last name hesitantly, knowing what kind of reaction
would be forthcoming.

Remmy’s hand tingled at her touch. He suddenly
felt a surge of warmth pass through him. A connection
to Wade. He batted back a tear.

“We know, Farm-boy. How do you do, Kelly?”
he said softly. Colin frowned.

“The man that was rescued from here earlier told
us all about you two, and who you really are Kelly,”
Maggie explained.

“Conie! He’s awake? He’s all right then?”
Kelly squealed.

“Yes. He’s awake. We left before we heard
what the doctors had to say, but we think he’s going to
be fine with a little rest,” Maggie said. “Where the hell
were you two when they came around here the first
time?”

Kelly looked at Colin, almost embarrassed. Her
despair had nearly gotten them both killed and then
stranded. Colin put his arm around her shoulder.

“It is a long story, but we were on the other side
of the island. We never heard or saw anything,” Colin
said, not willing to divulge the reason. “There was a
storm approaching and all we were concerned about at
the time was finding shelter. When we finally made it
back here, we discovered Conie gone and knew someone
had been here. We never thought you guys would be
back.”

Maggie and Remmy glanced at each other as
Colin explained. They could only wonder about why
they had been on the other side alone. Grins from their
misinterpreted thoughts didn’t go unnoticed by Colin or
Kelly. They both felt their faces heat up. Colin tried to
ignore it and continued.

“How did you find this place, and what made you
two come back again?”

Maggie and Remmy exchanged glances, both
taking a deep breath and expelling it at the same time.
Colin knew something was up.

“We didn’t find you, Colin,” Maggie said. “Quinn did.”

“Quinn?”

“He didn’t slide with us at the appointed time.
He told us to go ahead, then come back using the stored
coordinates. He said he was going to stay here until he
found you. He had no idea at the time you had run off to
Hawaii,” Maggie said. “We kept in touch by leaving
notes at the hotel.”

“Yeah, Farm-boy. We’ve kind of been like
yo-yos, bouncing back and forth to this world waiting
for word from Q-ball that he had found you. This last
time, we decided to come to Hawaii ourselves. No since
in you two guys having all the fun,” Remmy said with a
grin.

“When we arrived, and finally talked to the pilot,
he told us he and Quinn had located a survivor of the
crash, but only one. When we went to the hospital, we
found Conrad Bennish. He told us he had been in and
out of consciousness and knew there were others with
him. That’s when we hopped the plane to check it out
for ourselves. And here we are,” Maggie continued.

Colin said nothing for a moment, trying to take it
all in. His solemn expression told Maggie and Remmy
what he was thinking.

“Where is Quinn now? Why did he not come
back with you?”

“We don’t know where he is, Colin,” said
Maggie. “We never connected with him. The guy at the
hotel said he hasn’t seen him since he left to go looking
for you in the plane. We know he deposited Conrad at
the hospital, but left before the man regained
consciousness. Conrad never got a chance to speak with
him. It seems he’s disappeared.”

“First you fall off the face of the earth, and now
Q-ball. You guys have got to stop this. You’re driving
us crazy, man,” said Remmy.

Colin said nothing, but turned to stare out at the
water. His brother had stayed on this world to try and
find him. Maybe there was hope after all. Kelly walked
up behind him, putting her arm around his waist and
laying her head on his chest. Colin responded by
wrapping his arms around her. When they did find him,
how would he respond to Kelly? IF they found him,
would he even care?

It suddenly dawned on Colin that Quinn didn’t
know he was still alive. If he came here and found only
Conrad, Quinn must think he had perished in the plane.
“He is out there somewhere thinking I am dead. And
after all I said to him about Wade,” Colin whispered.
He turned to Kelly. “We have to find him, Kelly.”

You can still have Quinn die in jail, the victim of his own stupidity. If you think about it, you'd really be doing him a favor. Could you imagine being trapped inside Mallory? Having to watch and hear him do and say all the stupidity that is S5? It's as clear a case of mercy killing as I've ever heard.

No?

Okay.

I'll be looking forward to his rescue anyway. It should be worth it just to see Kelly lay into Quinn for what happened to Wade.
