Torme's thoughts on (echh) "Greatfellas"

Whenever there is a poll on the worst eps. ever I always post Greatfellas on my list. I find the ep. to be amateurish, and very uninteresting and yet again it relies on one of the Sliders doubles for no reason in particular other than adding more of a scifi element to this already flatlined piece of garbage. Anyway, Mr. Torme has always been very open with any of the questions I've asked him. Knowing that he would not take offense I asked. I asked him, why did they waste his late great father's talents on such a miserable piece of trash and basically What the hell were you thinking?Keep in mind I wasn't as blantantly open and rude as I'm exagerating to be. Here is TT's response:

my father LOVED that episode - thought the script was a great piece of satire
- loved the quirk of playing an alternate version of himself on another earth
- thought that was a very clever way of bringing him on the show. He also
had great fun knowing his charector was a chicken rancher, country singer,
cowboy hat wearing Christian etc - everything he was not on this earth.
Finally, he loved doing the country song i wrote for him called Praying to
Jesus - and he improvised a way to bring scat into a country song. It was
one of our most popular episodes based on fan mail response and one of my
dads favortite episodes of TV.
Thats what I was thinking...

Just goes to prove....

one man's trash is another man's treasure.

It's a good thing we all have such diverse likes and dislikes or this world would be a very dull place.

Just think what a dull place this board would be if we didn't have the JOC-lovers and haters.

While I don't think Greatfellas was one of the better episodes, I really don't see how it can rank as one of the worst, either. Especially when compard to the lovely set of reruns on lately like Electric Twister Acid Test, Dream Masters, Desert Storm, and Dragonslide or when compared to (insert S4 ep. title here). And Remmy's double was central to the plot, not just window dressing. If Rembrandt's double wasn't way up in the FBI, the Sliders never would have been drawn into conflict with the mob or had any contact with Mel Torme.

Eusti has already said everything I was going to.

As for my opinion, I LOVED Greatfellas! It was an excellent piece of satire; something Torme` and Weiss did best. I only wish Torme` could have done more episodes in his great satirically-witty writing style.
