For those of you who wached the episode of sliders where magie's double was a dead astronaut. I noticed something very interesting, when she slid into that world she anounced, "beautiful Fresno California" a seemingly inocent statement, that is unless you have been to Fresno. You see, I have lived in fresno, I know what it is like. And belive me, that was nothing like fresno. The real Fresno is a hot miserable place to live, half the population has asthma from the polution. it genuinely sucks.
Now I know some of you are probably thinking, it was only a set, or It was a differant world. well in responce to it was only a set, I say that they can make the sets a little more convincing, and to different worlds, I point out that they have mentioned over the years "univercal constants" things that never change from world to world. I would have to say that the discustingnes of Fresno California would have to be one of them.

Good thing the Sliders never slid in Seattle. The land of coffee, Microsoft, the space needle, and a hell of a lot of rain. I'd hate to see the way they glorify this place!

Would if they slid into Atlanta, Ga, where I am at! HOTAtlanta (and I mean hot -- thirty five days now of above 95 degrees!), no rain, and talk about pollution (thirty five days now of unhealthy air)! To misquote a Who song, "You can see (and breath it as well -- well at least until your lungs caved in!) ozone for miles and miles!" And, then the Sliders would have to avoid either the cars (people on foot don't exist, their a figment of the automobile drivers imagination, a stop sign, what stop sign!), the murders (of course Monica Kaufman from our channel 2 would be making bets on which Slider would end up on her body count list -- and then we see Monica with that huge smile!), or worse yet they would miss our MARTA (believe me MARTA is hardly Smarta!) either the bus would mistake them for a "bump on the log" or the train would not get them anywhere! And, of course they would not want to miss Newt or would they?!

But, seriously folks this is the magic of TV -- did you think Sliders was reality?

I've heard it referred to as

You aren't the only one who was bothered by the "beautiful Fresno" comment. I was thinking, "yah right, Fresno sure has changed since I was last there!" I also lived in Clovis a while back, and I didn't remember Fresno looking as charming as that lot at Universal. In defense of the early San Francisco episodes, at least they threw in some scenes that were actually shot in the city. (For example, The Weaker Sex at Embarcadero Center.) Ofcourse the geography in the pilot was all messed up. They show Quinn running from what's supposed to be Golden Gate park (I don't think it is) to his class at.... what's supposed to be Berkeley! He'd have a lot of running to do across the Bay Bridge before he got to class! Ha Ha! That's Hollywood for ya.
