I got Cult Times #49 today, there's a Sliders article in it. And a couple of other Sliders things. I'll transcribe them at some point, but here's a quote I thought I would share. This is something Bill Dial said.

"The story process really can start from anything. David [Peckinpah] came in one day and said, 'I see Kari in tight leathers with motorcycles... now go with it'. We ended up writing a show called Easy Slider.'

Niurr!!!!!! Words do not describe Peck!!!! Icky. Describes how he sees Sliders though. At least they changed it to Mallory. Otherwise it would end up being practically a rip-off of The Breeder!!!

I would now like to hear from all those people who were tryiing to give Peckinpah the benefit of the doubt...not to mention all those who said Peck couldn't be held responsible for Easy Slider. Even though Fox bore the beast, Peckinpah is the root of practically all the problems Sliders had.

Thanks for the tid bit Sarah and I look forward to the article transcription when you have time! Seems like Dial was giving the real scoop without pulling punches...

Pretty much sums Peckerhead up.

Also, becuase Peck was directing Easy SLider, we got to see Mallory do his jack-hammer impression w/that motorbike slut woman, instead of NOT showing their sexual encounter.

Darn it.

One of the sarcastic comments running through my mind.
I have seen Kari in tight leather too, long before season 5, to think Peck stole one of my ideas, of course in mine it wasn't with motorcycles, or the other sliders, well Alyssa Milano was there, uhh i think I'll hush

HunterD(I may not be Donner level humor, but I do my part [that sounds dirty considering the rest of this message don't it, well you try thinking of another way of saying it without it sounding like an Innuendo)

no wonder Easy Slider sucked! I disagree

GOOD stories are not written from some half-baked wet dream. Good stories are written from a revelation, from a series of ideas that key off one another and produce a good story. No wonder so many Sliders episodes since Peck have no soul at all--and it shows!!

I agree with TempFlux, Peck is the cornerstone of Sliders demise. He, one man, personally degraded the vision of a brilliant man (Torme) with this base, souless crap! May he rot in television hell!

I just read Y5 Journal for 1000 Deaths..

and the first part of the journal hits my point home. Damron was in an arcade when he looked over at some kid and had a revelation. His thoughts produced an idea for the story and THAT is why the story was good.

As I writer, I am greatly offended by the preposterous notion that a story can start from anything. If that were true, I could produce meaningless stories all day long. A premise has to start from something deeper to be a good story.

OK, I am climbing off my soapbox now!
Thanks for listening,
MZ
