I don't like what my source said

He told me they cancelled just because of the fans. That is obviously bull****. Pardon my language. If they read this board, they would see that there are only a handful of Jerry lovers out there, and that the mainstream of fans are sticking with the show through this hard time. I mean, we all wrote to Sci-fi to get the show renewed. I have lost all respect that I had for Sci-fi. When they picked up Sliders from Fox, Sci-fi was my savior! Now, it just shows that they are using us. If they really did listen to the fans, they would have saved Sliders because obviously there were many many more fans who wrote in and posted that Sliders needs to be saved, as opposed to fans who said that Jerry was the life of the show. I will try to get a straight answer from them, but I'm not sure what they're going to tell me. Apparently, my source has now cut off his communication with me now that Sliders has been cancelled. I don't understand it. Apparently, the Sci-fi channel big-wigs only read this bboard after the ep Applied Physics when we had "The Attack of the Jerry Lovers!" I think Sci-fi has made a big mistake. It is now too late to get the cast from s5 back, even if another network were to pick it up. Sci-Fi should have made the final decision after the season finale of s5, just to see how high the ratings were. Personally, I think that Sliders would have made it for a sixth season , if they were even given a chance. My source also said that "Sliders has run its course." Hello? A show like Sliders has the possibility to be on TV forever! There are uncountable possibilities to the show. Plus, there are many unanswered questions (that the writers and producers have probably forgotten about). Well, there is very little we can do. So, we might as well and see what The Seer has in store for us. If it is an unsuitable series finale, then we can try our hardest for a tv movie. Until then, enjoy the rest of season 5, and Keep on Slidin'!

Don't trust sources

I've never trusted the word of a source. You have to be very careful about what they say. You have to ask yourself, who are they? How do they come about this info? Are they friends of the people involved? Every word is heresay until the person it's about speaks.
You are right, a show like Sliders has endless possibilities. Many unanswered questions.
And we have to be idiots to think that a few negative posts can end a show. Unless the network was looking for a way to get rid of the show. As for the "Jerry lovers", I just think they are loyal fans that really didn't want the show to end, just wanted JOC back. I bet those people who say, Sliders is not good anymore still watch it.

I have been saying Sci-Fi planned this

for awhile. Today, as I dropped Cassi off for a week at Grandma's, I noticed Bill Dial's name as producer or exec produceron a show--the best I got was a show called LEGEND with Richard Dean Anderson, or something like that--a western. I have taken the other side to insist there is nothing to say JOC could not have shared exec title since at least he was with the show from the start, yet I haven't seen what in the current production team's pedigree qualifies them for a job in science fiction. I & a few others have warned Sci-Fi has had it's reasons for what it has done to SLIDERS, & now it is blaming the fans, yet the overall comment, even after the shock of the season 5 opener, has been hopeful on this board. ANY time a character is replaced, a certain amount of negative reaction is expected, & the method in which JOC & COC vanished was rather secretive (as witnessed by all of the shocked reactions--it seems many of us learned from that week's TV GUIDE, or the night of the show. Why didn't SCI-FI run ads as soon as the last Season 4 show aired?) I'm inclined to think they planned to turn SLIDERS fans into fans of one or all of the other Friday Prime shows by lowering the quality of SLIDERS. I DO NOT believe ANY network would cancel a show based on negative fan reaction to a change--they care too much about ratings & audience shares. But they also care about budgets--if they dumped 99% of the original cast & production crew they would most likely replace them with cheaper contracts. If it took, fine. If not, then SLIDERS fans would surely fill that hour somewhere else.
