I just realized what it is I can't stand about Season 4 when I saw
Revelations. What was revealed? Nothing!
As for the acting, it was all more-or-less ho-hum, even for Season
4. Kari horribly overacted. Jerry horribly underacted. Hell, behind
Cleavant (who was limited to a miserably thankless role), Colin (or
should I say Kristanna Loken's Don Juan) was the best regular actor
that episode. Man, that's bad. I almost laughed out loud when he was
trying to run.
By the way, on a little sidenote, I wouldn't even have commented on
the acting if I wasn't tired of people who always bash Robert Floyd
and Tembi Locke when those two are actually trying (and trying hard
too). Luckily, that seems to have died down, so I won't be commenting
on Jerry's for a good long time after this either.
And the writing, well, don't make the same mistake I did and watch
while you have indigestion. The dialogue was terribly constructed. You'd
think the producers never shared a conversation in their lives. The
plot holes were so big you could fit a Thanksgiving butterball through
(hey, tis the season)!
I couldn't get past Quinn's perpetually expressionless face. When everyone
else was laughing, he didn't crack a smile. When he did smile, it was
this weak pseudo-smile. I just loved the way he looked around at his
homeworld and said... "Home..." Man, you could just see him
jumpin' for joy. Or when Maggie said she hoped he'd get home someday.
"Yeah... so do I," says he, with a tinge of that "I'm
quittin' at the end of the day" tone of voice.
And the special effects were beyond bad. What was with this giant's
hand? What would a giant want with Maggie, and why would it be waving
a hand around through a vortex? And how the hell does a vortex move
at the exact same speed as a speeding train?!
You know, I'll be the first to admit this. Sliders was never anywhere
near as good once Tracy Torme' left. But at least in Season 5 the people
there were TRYING to make it better.
Now, just about everyone here has just totally panned an episode of
Sliders. I figure it's my turn to do it. And you know what? For all
it's flaws (and boy is that a list!), I still didn't walk out on that
episode, despite that it was more boring than the commercials surrounding
it (which were in themselves boring in the extreme).
Well, now that I've picked an episode and vilified it, I'll dismount
my high horse once again. ;-)
