What Would You Change? • "Pilot"

SYNTHIA [materializing]: Please state the nature of the postual emergency.
BLINKER [handing her a spec sheet]: Handle this, would you? I've got coding to do. [dashes off, leaving a strangely Roadrunner-shaped cloud of dust]
SYNTHIA [sighs and narrates into the camera]:
Here's the concept. Reply to this post by suggesting a change to the Sliders pilot (both parts shall count as one episode for our purposes.) You can rewrite a line, devise an alternate ending, point out something obvious the characters should have done, or aaaaaanything else you want. For example: Harry Shearer should have delivered Day Tripper's lines in Kent Brockman's voice.
For extra inspiration, you might try taking on the role of someone involved in Sliders production, such as...
-----
David Peckinpah: I thought the Pilot was okay, actually. It had plenty of special effects shots, a resistance movement, a nude feminist pageant, and a climactic gunfight. Plus, I loved that scene where Quinn realizes his dad's a vampire on this world and drops his glass of blood. But why'd that idiot Tormé call Quinn's basement the Bat-Cave if he was going to make it the Fortress of Solitude in "The Guardian"? I mean, I did the best I could to clarify things...

The goal is to either genuinely improve the episode or be as amusing as possible. Then check out tomorrow's game for your shiny new prize!

More hugs! More hugs!
Date: 01/06/2004
From: BabyCasanova
Maggie Beckett voiceover for Sliders Jeans promo: It's harder to hug someone with them on.
David Peckinpah: I love that scene where Quinn gives Wade a hug after he thinks she died. I propose that Quinn give every and any woman a hug except... oh yeah Wade. That will build up tension in Quinn and then he has to release that tension. The viewers will love the romantic tension. We're going to need another woman so Quinn can focus on her instead of Wade. Besides Wade is so whiny. We need to kill her character off so Quinn will need more hugs and more hugs and more hugs. Get that chick from 'Remote Control.' Get it! Remote control and timer? Bwahahahahahaahaahhaha! Yes that chick will be great as Quinn's... whatever and she sings and jiggles too! Yay baby... Quinn's going to have many chicks because chicks dig him.
Hug Me!

A genuine improvement...

Getting rid of BT would be a start.
The one thing that really bugs me about the Pilot is how Remmy sings "Amazing Grace" over the fallen revolutionaries when "The Star-Spangled Banner" would be satisfying and appropriate on so many levels. I know, Tracy regrets it himself, and he's explained the reasons why... it still annoys.

Sabrina Lloyd: I loved the script, loved the character, but could someone please do something with my hair? And get wardrobe over here, stat!
Sci-Fi censor: I'd give that Tracy Tormé a bar of soap to wash his filthy mouth. All this talk of putzes and sex! Dirty, dirty boy!
I agree with Callie on the Star Spangled Banner. That's what he was supposed to sing, it would only be fitting he get to sing it.

Change: The Doubles

'Lo. .
I would change this: instead of just *telling* us about each of our Sliders' doubles on Soviet World, I'd have had at least one scene with each one. (I don't count the Rebel Wade scenes in the existing Pilot because she never did anything except duck, run and die.)
I would have had a video of Remy in the Detroit Uprising shown to our Remy during the interrogation. I would have the Soviet Arturo in a scene with the Rebel Wade. And I would have had a scene similar to the one that was in the Sliders novel ... a scene of our Quinn watching his own double shot by firing squad after trying to help someone who was being beaten by the Soviets. For the PILOT, I think this would have been a way to bring home the reality that their doubles are NOT necessarily the same as our heroes ... they can be heroic (Remy), courageous (Quinn) reveal hidden depths (Wade) or even make evil choices (Arturo). It would have set a more interesting tone for the series.
But that's just my opinion.
<shrug> I'd like to have seen Wade and Quinn kiss, too. <grin>
