vents

An interesting topic to explore would be vents. During high school, a classmate wrote a paper in which he stated that he never wanted to be placed on a vent. The next Monday on the way to school a semi truck hit him. His parents decided his fate based on his paper. (oh, a vent is a ventilator.)
The memory of that classmate has come to my mind often these last couple of weeks. The hospital where I work is one of the few hospitals being kept open during a recent rash of sickness and death on the East Side of Michigan. One night, after opening up the outpatient surgery rooms to regular admits, we still had to keep two vents in the ER over night. (It is such a pain when you can't stabilize a patient enough to be life flighted out by helicopter.)
So, what does this have to do with sliders? Well...when and if a person makes it off a vent they are never the same. At least that is what most of their family members will tell you. The change they are talking about is not a physical one. I thankfully have never known someone, personally, who has needed a vent I just think that someone should question this technology. There are many different out comes to a vent and people know so little about them. What if there were to be a "Sliders" episode exploring these different outcomes. The slide from DEATH to LIFE to DEATH is the ultimate slide.

Very interesting...

I had an experience yesterday that made me question a lot of things about life, death, and fate. I do wonder, though, what exactly you mean by the people never being the same? You are suggesting a mental or emotional change of some kind, but would you care to elaborate? That there would be a change is an intriguing thought that I have never considered.

"Dead Man Sliding" came close

It had nothing to do with sitting on a standard vent, but rather Wade was crawling through an industrial size vent shaft in the TV studio where Quinn was being tried for murder (and defended by Arturo). It was one of about a half dozen winning stories from the 3rd season. Fortunately, no gas or air was running through the shaft when Wade was in it!

Executive.

Do you have a reading impairment of some kind that we should know about? I suggest you reread this post, perhaps a little slower next time.

That wasn't nice, Grim Reaper!

So I made a SLIDERS reference about the only episode that involved building vent shafts! I intended it to be slightly off-topic, but still relevant to vents and the show.
