Good morning all. Hope your weekend was fabulous.

Weez - in answer to your question about Hawk. I haven't seen her on line in months. But I've not been on as much as usual myself. I hear from Foxtrottin that she has gotten very interested in SG-1 and has begun to write fanfiction for them. I guess we lost another Slider.

United We Slide, Divided . . . We Disappear

Chapter Fifteen

Colin watched helplessly as Kelly disappeared around the bend. He knew she was hurting uncontrollably so he let her go to work out her anger alone. She needed that time
to let it all soak in. Damn his brother! Damn him for screwing up everybody’s lives. He picked up a banana that Kelly had missed and flung it toward the ocean in frustration. It hit with a plop only a few feet from the sand and disappeared into a curling wave. Colin
released a disgusted sigh.

Kelly ran until she thought her lungs would burst. She finally fell, exhausted, on another part of the beach. She must have run clear to the other side, she thought.
Wallowing in the sand, she cried until no more tears would come. Images of Wade in the hands of the enemy would surface and fade, as she called out for help. Kelly screamed and pounded the sand in anguish. Why couldn’t he have just told her she died? Why did he have to give her all the gory details?

All the worry and work she and Conie went through. All the hopping from one world to another. And for what? Now she and Conie were stuck here, without family, without friends, without Wade. What was the point of it all?

She rolled over, and stared up at the sky, numb to the hot sun on her face, and the gritty sand on her skin and in her hair. Time passed, and she lay there as if in a vacuum.

"Kelly?" She heard her name called, but made no move to acknowledge it. "Kelly, are you all right?"

Colin stood to her right, several feet away, wondering if she was even aware of his presence. He had finally exhausted his patience and decided to go search for her when
she didn't return after a reasonable amount of time. He found her prone on the beach and unmoving. She turned her head slowly and looked at the man who had just shattered her
hopes.

She raised up, her dried tears leaving tracks on her dirt-smudged face. Sand was stuck to her legs, arms and forehead. She looked like the lost, forelorn creature she was. Colin cursed himself for his decision to bare all, then cursed his brother once again for their entire situation.

"Kelly, I know the truth hurts deeply, but I felt you needed to know. I could not live with myself if I let you go on thinking, and hoping, she was alive. Please, let me help you get through this." He took a few steps toward her.

Her face took on a hard look as she backed away from his advance. He was a Mallory, the source of all her troubles and woes. Damn him! Damn him to hell! She turned and ran toward the rocks jutting out into the water.

"Kelly! No! Please do not run away from me. I only want to help," he yelled as she walked on the narrow ledge as if on a tightrope. "Besides, it is too dangerous for you
to be out there. Please, come back."

She ignored his cries and moved further and further toward the end. The water below crashed violently against the rocks, spraying its mist high into the air, then drifted
back out toward the open sea. She turned to stare at the scene, becoming mesmerized by the movement. Images of Wade materialized again and again in the water below. The
tears began to flow anew.

"Oh, Wade. My precious baby sister. What have they done to you?" she cried out as tortuous scenes filled her mind. "What have they done to us? You are gone, I can't
get home, what is the point in going on? Maybe I can find you in another way."

She turned to look back at Colin. He was moving slowly toward her, trying to keep his balance on the uneven ground. She turned back to the water. It beckoned her to
jump and end the pain.

"Kelly, please come to me," Colin called out as he drew nearer. He held out his hand as he spoke his plea.

"There is no reason," Kelly whispered, then jumped into the swirling water some twenty feet below.

"KELLY!" he screamed as she disappeared over the edge. He ran to where she had been standing, tripping and losing his balance. He slipped and barely caught himself before sliding over the side. When he righted himself and peered into the depths, he saw Kelly stuggling in the foam below.

He had no choice. He had to jump in to try and save her. He surveyed the area for only a second, then jumped to one side of where she had gone over to avoid an ominous rock ledge. Heaven only knew how she had missed it herself.

He sunk well below the depths then bobbed up to the surface. The salt water stung his eyes as he opened them to locate Kelly. She was nowhere to be seen.

"KELLY!" he screamed again. He thrashed around, one way and then the other. When he turned toward the sea, he saw her come to the surface as a wave curled over on itself. How had she gotten so far out in such a short time? He started to swim, battling the strong current, and making very little progress.

When she went under again, he dove under the water to swim in her direction. When he came up for air she was nowhere in sight. He dove under again, wondering if he
was making any headway. As his head split the surface, he caught a glimpse of her once again as a huge wave began to crest. She was only mere feet away. He lunged toward her
limp body, but missed. She disappeared again.

He took a deep breath and dove under once more. His hand hit her body. He grabbed and caught a handful of clothing, pulling them both toward the surface. He glimpsed at her closed eyes. She either wasn't conscious or wasn't alive, but he couldn't stop to determine that now. He had to spend all of his energy fighting the trecherous waters to get them back to shore. He could only pray that God hadn't spared her from the plane crash, only to be taken from this world in this manner.
