I managed to get ahold of some friends in the scifi magazine biz, and
they tell me that they recently did an interview with several Sliders
related people as a way of saying good-bye to the show. Among them were
R. K. Weiss, Sabrina, Kari, Cleavant, JRD, Jerry, Charlie, Robert, Tembi
and Peckinpah. Here are a few snips of the interviews that I got...
First, R. K. Weiss -
MAG - Mr. Weiss, we've heard the rumors about a possible Sliders movie
on the internet. What can you tell us?
RKW - Well, the movie is in the style of the first season or two of
the series. It's a pretty big story idea that would bring a few different
elements of the show together, but would still be enjoyale to the new
fans.
MAG - Have any of the actors signed on yet?
RKW - Nothing official, but all of the actors that I've mentioned the
movie to seem to be interested.
MAG - Can you tell us who the actors are that you talked to?
RKW - Well, all of the actors that will play a part in the movie, really.
All of the ones that I want.
There's more to that reply from RKW, but I couldn't get it.
Next I got JOC's. It kinda picks up in the middle, so be warned..
JOC - I haven't heard about any movie. I don't think it will happen.
MAG - Would you want to be in it?
JOC - I think I've moved on with my life. I left the show because the
timer prop wasn't shiny enough and unless they found a way to fix that
I don't think that I'd go back.
MAG - Did you enjoy working on the show?
JOC - It was hard work. Uh, you know, a lot of the fx were pretty much,
uh, sticks and mud thrown together. I think we could have done better.
MAG - We've heard that the original season 4 finale was supposed to
be different. As a producer that season, do you know what the original
was?
JOC - Well, I think it had to do with us finding my real home earth,
which would have been great. But the big guys decided to go with the
one where we find out pretty much every secret the series had. I didn't
agree with that, but what could I do?
Next, Sabrina's...
MAG - Have you heard about the Sliders movie?
SL - Yeah. From what I hear, it sounds great.
MAG - So you're interested in being in it?
SL - You know, I've thought about that a lot. And I love the character,
so I really want this for her.
MAG - We last saw Wade in a rather horrible position.
SL - Yeah. That episode was weird to watch. I thought I had to bring
closure to the character, but I think it could have been done better.
It was kinda spooky though.
MAG - What would you have done different?
SL - I probably would have made it a bit happier. Um... I think it
would have been great to act with Cleavant again, but I didn't have
the time. I really regret that.
Next came Charlie's...
MAG - What?
COC - Can you ask me some questions too?
MAG - No. Go away.
COC - I was on the show too, you know.
MAG - Yeah, whatever. Go away.
COC - I like corn.
Then JRD's...
MAG - So the Sliders movie?
JRD - Yes. It sounds wonderful, but I don't want to commit until I
see the final script.
MAG - What did you think of the series?
JRD - I think that it was never able to explore the full nature of
the premise. I regret that.
MAG - We hear that you wrote an episode.
JRD - Indeed I did. But it went on to be rewritten in such a way that
I didn't want my name on it.
MAG - Is that why you left?
JRD - It played a part. Too much fun at a part also played a part.
(laughs)
Then Cleavant's...
MAG - You have a new CD.
CD - Yes. It was great getting back into the recording studio.
MAG - I know a lot of fans wished that you could have done more of
Remmy's songs.
CD - That would have been fun, but it wasn't possible.
MAG - What do you regret most about the series?
CD - I regret a lot of things. There were some times that I just didn't
want to be there. But that's the past.
MAG - Are you interested in the movie at all?
CD - You know, I had a short talk with Rob Weiss the other day about
this, and his idea is a good one. I think a lot of fans will be surprised.
I am very interested.
MAG - Okay, thios has to be asked. What's your favorite Remmy song?
CD - I liked them all. He was such a fun character to play. I think
the one called "Tears In My 'Fro" has the most fun memories,
just because of the scenes we has it playing in.
Next came Kari...
MAG - So, what have you heard about the Sliders movie?
KW - I've only heard about a small cameo so far. But I'm sure they'll
find more room for me.
MAG - What did you like best about the show.
KW - I really loved the cast and crew. Everyone was great. You know,
the people behind the cameras never get enough attention.
MAG - Ha!
KW - Excuse me?
MAG - Sorry. Remembering joke... beavers... funny.
What would be the one thing you would change abou the show if possible.
KW - I think that the quality really suffered toward the end. And my
wardrobe was kinda ugly.
MAG - You sang in an episode. What was that like?
KW - YOu know, they asked me to write the song for that scene, since
I'm a singer. And nothing came to me. So I decided to go shopping. It's
funny how ideas always hit you at the weirdest times.
We now jump to Robert Floyd...
MAG - Was it hard for you to join the show.
RF - I knew fromt he start that it would be hard. Jerry's character
was very well liked, so I knew people would be upset with me.
MAG - Have you read the fan reaction?
RF - I had my family read the reactions. They sent me some of them.
MAG - And?
RF - Some of it was pretty... ugly. But I think most of them took it
well and understood that it wasn't my fault that Jerry left.
MAG - Have you heard about the movie?
RF - I have.
MAG - Can you tell us anything?
RF - Not really. It'll be interesting to play in.
And Tembi...
MAG - Thank you for joining us today.
TL - Oh, it's a pleasure. (big smile)
MAG - What did you think about working on Sliders?
TL - Well, it was a great role. I think it was something I needed to
do, really. Didi was a great role model for young women everywhere.
MAG - Were you upset when it was canceled?
TL - I pretty much knew it would be. And I'm used to that by now. But
I really did miss doing the show.
MAG - Have you heard about the movie.
TL - Only a little. I had a talk with one of the show's creators about
it. I think it sounds very interesting.
Then the last one... Peckinpah.
MAG - We've heard rumors about a movie. Do you know about it?
DP - Well, I'm not sure how you knew (laughs) but yes, I am working
on a Sliders tv movie.
MAG - Um... okay. Any information?
DP - Well, I really wanted to take the show back to it's roots. So
I'm thinking about revisiting a few of the worlds fromt he show's first
season.
MAG - Which worlds?
DP - Well, not to give too much away, but I've been thinking about
the vampire world... that was interesting. And I think it would be neat
to see Remmy reunited with his love on the human/animal hybrid world.
MAG - Hmm...
DP - I've already signed Charlie O'Connell.
Remember, there's more to the interviews, so buy the magazine. It's
the May 2002 issue of... Scifi Joker Magazine.
