And my personal belief is that as long as people are trying, the chances
are more in favor that something will happen eventually (which is why
I still believe there is a chance even for a Sliders movie - the largest
majority of movie projects just don't happen instantly.).
Novels based on sci-fi television series have enjoyed some success
out there, but I wouldn't say a raving success (Star Trek aside obviously).
Dr. Who has made a decent run in novels and a company produced 18 Quantum
Leap novels in the 90's before ceasing production; but the hurdle with
Sliders is convincing a publisher that Sliders will sell since they
are staring at the numbers from the sales on Linaweaver's pilot novelization
(which placed somewhat of a stigma on Sliders original novel production.
Most likely fans didn't buy because they saw no reason to buy a book
reiterating what they already saw on screen - unfortunately most suits
don't think that far into it). The stink always wears off eventually,
though...the key ingredient is someone there pushing for the opportunity
to write them helped along by a fan base wanting to see them. We have
those factors even by my limited knowledge. Does it mean new Sliders
novels will happen? Impossible to say...but at least there's a chance
as long as people care. I know I would buy new Sliders novels (just
as I bought Linaweaver's novel).
As for Linaweaver's pilot novelization...you might enjoy it if you
have the chance. The book suffered from several, several problems however...including
a gross mischaracterization of Wade and Linaweaver's tendenacy to inexplicably
mix up Quinn and Arturo's lines. He added a few neat elements, though...including
a look at Quinn's double on Russia Earth.
