Set
off a Chain Reaction
Date: 04/18/2001
From: Recall317
CoolSlider's MythArc post got me thinking that Sci-Fi should really
do a Chain Reaction day featuring those episodes. I know that's a lot
to ask considering we're currently lucky just to get a marathon once
a month, but I think it would be a great idea for them if they're planning
on returning the show to its regular rotation at some point.
While the MythArc is one great potential chain reaction, there are
plenty of other themed topics that would be a lot of fun. Let's say
Sci-Fi gave us the opportunity to pick 12 episodes for a Chain Reaction.
Which would you choose? Try to avoid giving a list of just your favorite
episodes and come up with a unifying link to all twelve. Here's one
example; I call it the "Sounds of Sliders" as all feature
a musical number:
The Pilot ("Cry Like a Man") Pt. 1
The Pilot (Comrade Rap) Pt. 2
Eggheads ("The Library Rap")
The King is Back ("Whip It", "Tears in my Fro",
etc.)
Post Traumatic Slide Syndrome ("Cry Like a Man" again, + Topps!)
Greatfellas ("Praying to Jesus")
State of the ART (Quinn attempts "Tears in My Fro")
Stoker (Multiple)
Asylum ("Angel")
Data World ("Purple Hawaii")
Way Out West ("Tight Pants")
A Thousand Deaths ("Downtown Brown")
Other cool chain reactions could focus on a single character such as
"Quinn's Transformation", or "The Many Faces of Maggie
Beckett"." Or, how about the 12 episodes that impact fanfic
the most! I dunno, what do you think, sirs?

Nice!
Date: 04/18/2001
From: MissingSliderMichele
The first thing that came to mind was -- needless to say -- the Fifth
Slider Collection. All the episodes where non-regulars make it through
the vortex... and invariably vanish within five minutes. >:-D
Summer of Love (Spiderwasps)
Luck of the Draw (Ryan, Henry)
Love Gods (David, Diana)
El Sid (Sid, Michele)
The Fire Within (Flame-thing)
The Breeder (Guess who?)
Prophets and Loss (Samson)
California Reich (Kirk, Vanessa)
Mother and Child (Christina, baby)
Revelations (Isaac, Catherine)
Into the Mystic (Ryan followup... but only because I'm stretching)
World Killer (Alt-Quinn... stretching as he didn't use their regular
timer... but I'm REALLY hard up for a twelfth entry :-P)
If we cut this in half and leave six, I'd peck -- er, pick, the eps
where the Fifth Sliders have the most impact on the next world. ('World
Killer' is omitted here for the reason outlined above... while Ryan
stays because he's THE Fifth Slider.)
Luck of the Draw
El Sid
The Fire Within
The Breeder
Mother and Child
Revelations
Ew. Did I just choose 'The Breeder' and 'Mother and Child' over 'Summer
of Love' and 'Into the Mystic'? Oh well.
Interesting that NO-ONE else slides in the fifth season... despite
many rumoured episodes (such as 'Sliding With The Enemy,' 'Sci-Fi Slide,'
Gwam's 'The Seer,' and presumably 'Fates Beckoning') that would have
remedied this.
Anyway, cool poll. Can't wait to see what other threads people come
up with!

Kromagg
Chain Reation
Date: 04/18/2001
From: The_Seer
May not be a popular one but I did come up with a 12 episode Kromagg-themed
Chain Reaction:
Invasion
The Other Slide Of Darkness
Genesis
Common Ground
Slidecage
Asylum
The Dying Fields
Mother And Child
Way Out West
Revelations
Strangers And Comrades
Requiem
I could have also added "Applied Physics" because of Mallory's
"Quinn" memory of the Kromagg and "The Seer" because,
like "Asylum", they don't physically appear in the episode
but are kind of important to the plot.
I honestly didn't think I was going to make it to 12 but I guess that
shows you how overused they were in the 4th season.

And
we have a winner!

From: SL4ever
The answer was "4" and you are the 4th post down. :-D If you
want to play along, send your favorite and/or most hated posts from
4-17 through 4-19 and any additional comments to me at zippyman@att.net
If you don't want to play along, never fear, I will fill your mouth
with all kinds of my words. :-P
As far as this post goes, how about a "Wade is the goddess o'
hotness" chain reaction? I would have to go watch them all again
to figure out which ones she was hottest in, but almost anything from
the first two seasons would suffice.
:-P~!~!~!~!

About
the rap songs....
Date: 04/19/2001
From: SlidersRocks
I allways loved watching those songs over and over again. Every episode
with music is allways good....well except for DataWorld. My fav would
have to be MC Pondexter and the library crew. Every time I watch the
episode I allways seem to rewind over the rap song a couple of times.
I think songs make the show and give the audience the impression of
the world there on and also makes the show more real. And also Jerrys
acting really changed from season to season. Probably the most is when
he used to say a line in sliders he never used to smile right after
saying it. Year 4 would have to be his worst year. But anyway enough
with his acting....scifi does need to show more marathons and not just
once a month.

The
COWs come home
Date: 04/19/2001
From: Recall317
I think it's high time a Chain Reaction is dedicated to the unsung heroines
of "Sliders", those ladies known as the Chicks of the Week!
Much like the Bond Girl, the Sliders Chick of the Week is what every
aspiring TV actress hopes to become. And we have had some semi-recognizable
names play the hallowed role. But only that "It" girl can
be a COW. Not only do you have to be pretty, but you also have to act
as dumb as a post regardless of the role your given. (AKA the Denise
Richards Syndrome)
Here are the chosen 12. Granted there were many to choose from, but
it turns out I had too much respect for the actresses who played Logan,
Gillian and Daelin to include them. The rest? Eh...
"Time Again and World" (Rebecca Gayheart aka Noxema Girl)
"El Sid" (Rebecca Chambers)
"Greatfellas" (Venus Terzo)
"Rules of the Game" (Laurie Fortier)
"The Guardian" (Leslie Horan)
"Dragonslide" (Michelle Rene Thomas)
"State of the ART" (Kathleen McClellan)
"Season's Greedings" (Chase Masterson)
"Murder Most Foul" (Brigid Brannagh)
"Slide Like an Egyptian" (Apollonia)
"Paradise Lost" (Lara Steinick)
"Slither" (Julie St. Claire)
And I would be remiss if I didn't mention the only COW who was so good
at her job, they promoted her to full time status- Kari Wuhrer!
Hmm...lot of Season Three here...can't imagine why...

PS. Great lists so far, guys!

The
Comedies of Sliders
Date: 04/20/2001
From: Blinker
Eggheads
The Weaker Sex
The King is Back
Love Gods
Dead Man Sliding
Oh Brother, Where Art Thou?
Just Say Yes
The Alternateville Horror
Lipschitz Live
Please Press One
A Current Affair
A Thousand Deaths
Runner-up: "Into the Mystic" with its offbeat humour and
jarring "Wizard of Oz" motif.
"Dead Man Sliding" is a pretty black comedy, but I need *something*
from S3, right?
Oh, and the strange thing is that S4 featured three consecutive comedic
episodes -- "Oh Brother," "Just Say Yes," and "Alternateville"
-- directly followed by four very darkly themed episodes: "Slidecage,"
"Asylum," "California Reich," and "The Dying
Fields." Way to provide some variety, guys.

Because
I'm in a gruesome mood... >:-D
Date: 04/20/2001
From: Callie21V
I give you: The Greatest Capital Punishments of Sliders!
Prince of Wails (electrocution)
The King Is Back (lethal injection)
Luck of the Draw (lethal injection; The Process)
El Sid ("...we're gonna start executing you one by one.")
Dead Man Sliding (beheading)
Electric Twister Acid Test (drowning while strapped into a chair)
Slide Like An Egyptian (ritual sacrifice to giant scarab)
Sole Survivors (crucufixion)
Prophets and Loss (death oven disguised as vortex)
Common Ground (disintegration by firing squad)
Way Out West (hanging)
Heavy Metal (walking the plank)
'Luck of the Draw' and 'Dead Man Sliding' tie as the ULTIMATE Sliders
Capital Punishment Episode.
The telepathic rape of 'The Dream Masters' is debatably a form of execution.
If you like, substitute it for 'El Sid,' where the mode of death was
never specified (but was probably to be a simple gunshot.)
In all, though, I think my list was pretty well-executed. [ducks]
>>> C/21
PS - As for The Sounds of Sliders, I'd just HAVE to take out PTSS (which
merely recycles the 'Cry Like A Man' tape from the Pilot) and throw
in 'Java Jive' (a really subpar episode, but it DID bring us five solid
minutes of musical goodness!)

Correction...

From: Callie21V
I listed 'lethal injection' twice in a row. The second should read:
Luck of the Draw (poison; The Process)
