Slider8's Season 6
EPISODE ONE: Among the Living, pt 1
Written By: Slider8
This was the roughest. Never had Rembrandt been hurled through such
a rough slide. It seemed as if his limbs were being stretched towards
the heavens and his brain was being shaken in a clothes dryer. He had
never experienced worse pain in his life. It seemed as if the torture
was over after every twist and turn, yet the tunnel stretched on farther.
Until it all just started to fade
"What do we do now?" The words continuously plagued Maggie's mind.
It had only been mere seconds since Remmy had left, and that's all she could
think about. "Remmy
" she cried. Diana stood near Maggie comforting
her. It was no use. She looked as if she were dead. Diana couldn't conjure up
an idea of what would happen if Maggie were to quit.
"Maggie, you need to be strong
" With that line Maggie turned
her head and sank down onto the floor.
Mrs. Mallory came over to comfort her while Diana took Mallory out
into the hallway.
"What is wrong with you? Why aren't you trying to help? We just watched
Rembrandt jump into an unstable vortex in which he could now be
dead, and
you are showing no pain or remorse about it whatsoever!" Diana was furious.
Mallory stood in the halls and stared strait at Diana.
He replied in a cold voice, "I just think you are showing too
much emotion. We have to get over it. Maybe I'm just not that type
of guy." She turned around into the room as if Mallory was not
even there.
Maggie was no sitting up normally and looked as if she was in a better
state of mind. She had collected herself, stopped crying, and was talking
with Mrs. Mallory.
"Are you alright?" Diana asked on her way into the room.
"I guess." Mallory now walked through the door towards Maggie and knelt
down.
He began speaking, in a quieter, softer, voice, "Don't worry Maggie.
I'll figure out a way to find Remmy, Wade, and Colin." Mallory
began shaking his head and then rubbed it as if he had a headache.
Maggie's eyes lit up like an inferno.
"Quinn..."
Strange noises were coming from everywhere. He couldn't see, but it
seemed like he was in a hospital. Rembrandt opened his eyes and was
greeted by a young nurse filling out some papers adjacent to him.
"Oh good, you're up. We were worried about you." She seemed tired,
as if she had been here for a long time.
"Where am I?" Remmy couldn't remember anything.
"San Francisco Bay Hospital. A man found you lying in an alley and reported
it to the paramedics. You're lucky to be alive. There was a high amount of poison
in your bloodstream. Or at least from what we can gather. So far, we haven't
been able to identify what you were intoxicated with." It was all coming
back to Remmy now. The vortex, the virus, the Seer, all the memories flooded
back into his brain. He sat there for a few moments thinking about the events
that had occurred probably only hours ago.
"How long have I been out for Doctor?" Remmy asked. She checked her
watch and then replied
"About two hours." Rembrandt thought for a moment and then got up to
use the restroom. The woman came over to the door of the bathroom and said that
he needed to hurry so that they could get the remaining toxins out of his system.
Remmy, couldn't let them do that. If there were Kromaggs here, he needed to be
able to use the virus against them. Luckily, there wasn't much security at this
hospital.
A few hours had passed and Mallory, Maggie, Diana, and Mrs. Mallory
were now resting in a hotel. They had left Claire locked up and begging
for help back at the storage facility and traveled incognito to the
hotel. Diana had taken some of the equipment and was now sitting
at the table with her PDL, trying to find a way to track the Kromagg
vortex in which Remmy had passed through. Mallory had taken some
aspirin and was lying on the bed. Maggie was still in shock. Rembrandt
was gone, maybe dead, and she had just seen what could have been
her Quinn resurfacing in Mallory. Mrs. Mallory was still trying to
comfort Maggie even though she was quite disturbed as well. They
had become close. It was almost as if she had adopted Maggie has
her daughter.
"Damn!" Diana shouted from across the room. "I've done everything
I can with this thing. There's nothing more I can do with the materials we have." Nobody
responded. It was if no one else was in the room. "How normal. There's a
tragedy, I take to science and they take to they're emotions. Well, most of them
anyway." She looked over and found Mallory asleep on the bed.
"Think, Rembrandt, think!" He had been in the bathroom long enough.
As he exited, Remmy noticed that the doctor had gone into another patient's room
to check up on them. But, she had left her coat behind. Remmy put it on and sneaked
past the door and into the main hallway. He found his way to the stairs and went
down to the next level. As he came out of the door, he was confronted by a pack
of six doctors.
"Hey! What are you doing down here! This is a restricted area!" Being
the quick thinker that he is, Remmy improvised.
"I'm looking for you! We've got three patients that are about to die up
there! We are already understaffed and these people need attention now!" Maybe
that would work.
"My god!" The men pushed Remmy out of the way and bolted up the stairs.
Remmy walked out the back door of the hospital with a smirk on his
face, "Hahaha, I still got it."
"No Wade! I'll find you! I'll come get you! The professor and I will find
a way! I promise!" A less emotional Maggie and Diana awakened Mallory.
"Mallory! Mallory, are you ok?" Maggie had heard him shouting from
across the room and was frightened by how familiar this all seemed. Mallory sat
up.
"Yeah, I'm fine. What happened?" He couldn't remember a thing. Maggie
sat down next to him.
"You were calling out to Wade and the Professor." Mallory didn't believe
what she was saying. This had to be some kind of joke.
"I've never even met Wade or the Professor! I don't know them!" As
soon as he said that, he began shaking his head and grunting in pain. Then, that
other voice appeared again. "Maggie, be strong. I will find a way to save
us all." Maggie once again couldn't believe her ears. Quinn was taking control
again. Mallory then fell back onto the pillow and stared blankly at the ceiling.
"Quinn! Quinn come back!" It was of no use.
Rembrandt walked the streets of San Francisco. It looked like it was
his San Francisco. But, he still did not get his hopes up. Everything
looked normal. There were no Kromagg ships flying around. No hippies
camping the streets. No dinosaurs stomping through the city. The
Golden Gate Bridge was gold; everything seemed normal. Rembrandt
searched the city, looking for anything to strange.
He stared at everything with wide eyes and wasn't paying attention
to where he stepping. Suddenly, he collided with another person. The
man fell down and the bag that he was carrying went flying into the
air. He pried himself off the ground as Remmy leaned against the wall,
dazed.
"Watch where you're going next time you blistering idiot!" The man
shouted as he got up and pointed at Remmy.
"REMBRANDT!" "PROFESSOR!" They both cried in unison. There
was a pause and then a hug. "My god! How did you get back here my boy?!" They
were both overjoyed, neither one of them could believe it.
"Professor, is it really you?" After all, you can never be sure with
sliding.
"I assure you Mr. Brown, it is I." This was just too much. How could
this happen. Rembrandt was completely confused.
"But you died! You were shot by Colonel Rickman!" Now Arturo was confused.
"No, no my boy, that must have been my double!" This was really starting
to twist things. "Come back to my home, Mr. Brown. I think I can explain
things there."
Back on the Seer's world, Mallory was resting on the bed watching TV
while Diana examined him with the PDL. Her facial expressions continued
to switch from confused to angry. Maggie was sitting next to Mallory
thinking about the recent events. "What are we going to do without
Remmy?" She
became instantly sadder when she thought of him. Mallory looked over
at Maggie and very sincerely said,
"He may still be out there. We can't give up hope." This helped Maggie.
She reached over and kissed Mallory on the forehead and revealed a very caring
smile. Mrs. Mallory had been a wreck ever since the incident with Mallory and
Quinn. She was getting anxious now.
"What have you found out?" She asked Diana.
The scientist continued her research as she spoke. "Well, it looks
as if Quinn's quantum signature has become more powerful than usual
and he is now struggling for dominance, but Mallory is able to resist
it because he is the stronger of the two. But
"
Mallory cut her off. "I knew there'd be a "but"
"
Diana continued, "But, Quinn may be able to resurface at anytime
and take control of the body for a few moments, as we have seen already." This
got quite a mixed reaction from the others. Mallory was angry, Mr.
Mallory was hopeful, and Maggie asked only one question, "So there
is still of a chance of getting Quinn back?"
Diana replied, "Well, I don't know. At least we know that he's
still alive."
"Oh, it is so good to see you Mr. Brown! So, tell me, where are Quinn and
Ms. Welles?" Arturo sat back in a chair with a wide smile across his face.
Rembrandt had never seen him so happy. Too bad that he had to tell him about
everything.
"Well, uh
we lost them. Basically. Quinn is trapped inside a double
of his from another earth and Wade was taken by the Kromaggs. She did contact
me though, and we found her. Unfortunately, we couldn't save her. For all I know,
she could be dead. But, she went out in a blaze of glory, taking down the entire
Magg complex with her." As Remmy began talking about Wade, his eyes began
to tear slightly, and so did Arturos.
"Good god! How could that happen? Damn! She was just too nice! Looking back
on it all, I wish I had been kinder towards her. Damn!" This went on for
about two more minutes until he finally calmed down a bit.
"Can Quinn be saved?" Arturo asked.
"I don't know Professor, it doesn't seem like it
" Rembrandt was
feeling terrible again, all this talk about old friends just made him feel empty.
Arturo for once was actually being optimistic. "So, where are we and how
did you get here Professor?" Now Arturo seemed excited.
"We are home. We are on our earth. The very one you were born on." Remmy
couldn't believe his ears. Home! He was home! "Now, the other part of the
story. Do you remember the world with the Azure Gate Bridge? The world that was
almost identical to ours?" Rembrandt nodded yes. "On that world, the
double who impersonated me was the Professor Arturo that slid with you. How you
could never have noticed, I don't know. What a pig-headed greedy fool he was.
Anyway, I was forced to stay on that world. That is, until I developed my own
timer." Arturo pulled a timer out from the desk drawer. "With this,
I can calculate where I want to go, how long I want to stay, and save coordinates." Rembrandt
was completely shocked.
"Professor, where are the Kromaggs?" Arturo laughed. "Kromaggs!
There are no Kromaggs here! I can assure you!" He knew it! The other earth
that they slid to, that he was imprisoned on, wasn't the real Earth Prime! Now
things were starting to make sense. "Ok, Professor, we need to get back
to the world I was just on, can you get us there?" "Hold on my dear
boy!" Arturo shuffled into the basement. Rembrandt followed and suddenly
found himself surrounded by all kinds of computers and other technology. "Man
Professor! You've been working!" Arturo chuckled. "Ah, here we go!
I've tracked the wormhole you arrived through and I am inputting the data now!" Arturo
fumbled with some buttons on the timer and then turned to Remmy. "I've been
waiting for this for years!" He activated the timer. The swirling blue vortex
appeared in the air in front of both of them.
"Just make sure we don't land on ice world!" And with that,
they both jumped in.
