Tex looked at the vote results and see's his name has been selected for extraction. SE slowly stepped into the darkened entryway that sloped down into the heart of the stone ruins. "Quick guys, over here." The other two hurried to catch up. "Hey DMD, light one of those torches with our last match." S8 pulled three torches out of their notch holders on the wall. DMD struck the match and lit the three torches. They were passed out to the other two explorers. SE whispered, "well, only one of us is going to get the job as the 5th Slider. We all might as well find this treasure and make some cash." He stepped catiously to the back wall of the dark building. A short arch had been carved out of the stone wall, leading back into the mountain. Something caught SE's eye and he froze. He smiled to himself and grabbed the bullwhip from a hook next to the tunnel entrance, "this may come in handy."  DMD looked at S8, "Convient?" "I'd say."

Happenstance
Small Earthquake loosens a lot of stones, almost filling the doorway to the ruin the Elites are in. The hole is only 1 foot in circumference. It may take up to several days to dig yourselves out. Hurry, you have neither food or water with you, and that limits your strength and your time. |

DMD: <cough> <cough> Is everyone OK? SE: Yeah. <cough> I can't believe the torch didn't go out. S8: I'm OK. I can see daylight through the hole near the top of the passage. It's going to take a while to dig out of that, tho'. DMD: Well, we'd better get started. SE: Do you guys hear something? DMD: Yeah, it sounds like rushing water. The river does pass through the ruins. That could be another way out. At the very least, it's a source of water. Food, too if we can find enough material for a fire. S8: Uh, guys? Remember the booby traps? The river sounds like it's down that passage way <pointing>. And we don't even have that marked on our map. DMD: So do we take our chances with the ruins and the river, or do we try to dig ourselves out before we run out of food and water? |

"So, who's for the tunnel?" S8 said. The others gazed down, seeing that it became dark after a few hundred feet. "I say we go for it." SE said. "At least then we'll know what's down there. If there's nothing down there, it won't take that long to get back here and dig our way out." DMD looked a bit questioning. But, he agreed. "Slider8?" SE said. "You know I'm with ya, let's go." Happenstance
You've now been trapped underground for 4 days. Even with the underground stream you've found, water is not enough. You are all now starving, weak from hunger. DMD now has the only still lit torch. It has only a few hours left to burn. The rock dust has made his eyes water and burn til he has problems seeing ahead. SE injured his ankle during the rockslide. He can walk, but barely. Its been the longest since Slider8 ate. He is the weakest member of the group, but no injuries. No one can win the immunity challenge if all are still trapped underground. You are now faced with dilemna. An escape route has been mapped, but the key is in the answers of these riddles. A cryptic message left drawn on the wall by the starting tunnel doorway says to solve the riddles, and at each of the three forks in the path, chose the one that has an engraving matching the riddle's answer above it. ================== (Tease 84) Sometimes it glitters, but often not; May be cold, or may be hot! Ever changing though the eye can't measure, Concealed within may be many treasures. Some find safety beneath its gate, While some may die beneath its weight! Old and broken, it brings forth life. (Tease 61) You throw away the outside and cook the inside. Then you eat the outside and throw away the indside. What did you eat? DMD studied the riddle left by the first fork in the tunnles. Quote: DMD: A stone. Some stones shine while some don't. At noonday they are hot and at midnight cold. Stones are always getting smaller from wind, heat, and water, but eyes can't measure the change because it is so slow. And they hide things that men find valuable, such as gold and silver. The badger finds safety beneath a stone, but a stone can also crush life. And when a stone is old and broken into tiny pieces, it becomes part of the soil that gives birth to trees and grass. The tired trio chose the tunnel with the stone engraved over it and proceeded until they found the next fork in the tunnel. Quote: SE: An ear of corn. You throw away the husk (the outside) then cook the inside. Then you eat the kernels (the outside) and throw away the inside (the cob). The three chose the passage marked with an ear of corn and proceeded to the last fork. Quote: S8: I've got this one. The letter 'm'. The weary would-be sliders made their way down the passage marked with the letter 'm' and finally out into the sunshine. Ms. Yeontoo was waiting for them there with the familliar challenge supplies. Y: It's about time you gentlemen showed up. I was close to calling the competition and starting over with a new group of candidates. Your final challenge awaits. |

DMD read the results of the final challenge. "D'oh! Darn typos!" He broke out his first aid kit and offered it to SE, who was still hobbled from their experience in the ruins. DMD: "Here, SE. You take it first. Not that I'm trying to influence your vote or anything."
