Wade or Maggie ?

Hi! I personally am a die-hard Sliders fan and have been watching the show from the beginning. I, like many fans have ridden the rollecoaster Fox and the producers have created. When Maggie first joined the Sliders I really hated her ( Maggie, not Kari Wuhrer) Wade has always been my favorite character. When last summer I logged on to the Fox Sliders Message Board,
(when Sliders was still on Fox) someone started a debate a debate about how many people supported Maggie and how many supported Wade. At the time, Maggie was a new character, and an on-camera war between her and Wade took place. Many people thought that Maggie was a love- interest for Quinn and an object to lure male viewers. Most took Wade's side, saying that she was unfairly being excluded. I thought that it would be interesting to see who people on this board support. I personally am a Wade+Quinn fan. Please reply.

You should visit it if you are a Wade & Quinn fan, because they have great (realation)shipper fanfiction, plus tons of other stuff. You can join their mailing list. It keeps the original romance alive, the thing we wanted to see but know that won't happen. We can always hope Wade will come back to us midseason or at the fifth season. We can only hope.

I believe them both to be good characters. Wade has already been proven
to be through he long tenure on the show with consistent characterization
and good solid writing behind her (until the end of season three).
Maggie, on the other hand, has the potential to be a good character.
She has not really been given a chance yet...having only appeared in
around 9 episodes (that may be more or less), her character hasn't had
time to develop and plus (a big plus) it was subject to the same problems
Wade's character had at the end of season three...horrible writing.
I really think we will see a change in Maggie for season four as the
writers have stated that they are giving her a more compassionate side
to make her human while keeping her inherent aggressiveness. That shows
that they are thinking and they are writing her...and with that, you can
expect a much better representation to judge her by than the end of
season three. As I say, all we can do is give it a chance and see
what happens...

Personally, Wade was my favorite character and I always love the original cast, no matter what the show. (i.e. I loved the first season cast of TNG, including Yar and Wesley) The chemisty between Quinn, Rembrant, Arturo, and Wade was great. I was saddened to see the Professor go and now Wade is gone too. But Maggie is an interesting character that needs a few more episodes to develop, and only after her character has hit its stride will I make my opinion.

The first time I saw Sliders, I knew I was hooked. It's unique blend of characters, situations, and plot irony kept me interested. Then the Professor died...I was dissapointed, but I tried not to let that ruin the show for me. Then Maggie showed up, and that's when the writers made their fatal mistake. I think maggie was just thrown into the mix as a lame attempt to attract male viewers while creating tension between our characters. I can't stand Maggie, and maybe I am just slightly biased because Wade was my favorite. The writers totally supressed Wade's character in order to make Maggie into a love interest for Quinn. Maggie, as far as I'm concerned, has no depth to her character. All we know about her is that she's whiny, obnoxious, and self indulged. Maybe the writers can fix that in the new season. I certainly hope so, because it's bad enough that Wade will no longer be on the show. I can think of nothing worse then having the same un-witty banter between a clueless Quinn and the stuck up army commando. I just wish they hadn't screwed with the characters in the first place. The original four made the show much more fun to watch, and Wade and Quinn's developing relationship made it interesting. So I guess I was a pretty big Wade/Quinn fan :) I just hope the show won't completely suck now that we'll only have two of our originals left. By the way, does anyone know if they're going to get a new character to replace Wade?

favorites. And when he finds Wade again, Quinn and her should
get together.
I don't think Maggie and Quinn would make a good couple,
i hope they just become good friends, I like Maggie and i really
look foward to the changes made to her so she can be a better
character and more well liked by the fans

i have enjoyed sliders since the original pilot episode. i even taped the first 2 seasons. i was as many fans of the show hightly dissapointed by the way the show was handled. first the loss or the arturo character, this character provided the father figure and was a conservative voice of the show. now we have the removal of wade wells. her charecter provided the more feminine and liberal view, she was a charecter you could really like she was caring and loyal but also cute and brainy. her light romantic friendship with quinn was very deep and thoughtful. she gave the show some depth. the interaction of the 4 original cast members was what gave sliders its unique life. the two brains and the two more liberal views balanced nicely. arturos brains and ultra conservatism wades gentleness and compassion, quinns intellect and charm and dedication to getting them home, rembrants care over the group and his humor and lets do what we have to but lets just get home attitude . these 4 unique people gave life and style to a show which hopefully will live a long and well watched life on sci fi network bring back wade and arturo. long live sliders and thanks sci fi channel

It took me a while to get here, but now that I am here, I must say Wade is obviously the better choice. Maggie was only put onto the show for sex appeal if you ask me, no offense to Kari Wuhrer. There is an obvious tention between Wade and Quinn and it is driving me nuts. Eventually they will kiss, I told myself.Anyway. The fact that Sabrina Loyd is not on the show anymore ruins it(and also adds to the possibility of Quinn getting together with Maggie, which would be bad and ruin the Wade and Quinn image). -Krissi

I love Wade. She is my favourite character, and personally I was devastated to learn she would not return for a fourth season. I hate Maggie. I despise her, and I can't believe TBTB at Sliders want her to have a relationship with Quinn. It's just icky!! I hope wade returns for a fifth season, and when she does, I don't know maybe she can shoot Maggie at point blank range. It would make a lot of us feel much better.

I missed out on a lot of the eppisode when it was first out because it interfiered with my schedual, but I watched some of it. Now I watch it every time. I saw part of one with maggie & didn't finnish it because I didn't like her character. I think wade is cool. She is cute, & her & quinn would make a good couple.

I would definitely say Wade because between her and Maggie, Wade was WAY sexier! One of the best features of Wade was her hair. I loved it when she changed to that new red haircolor. It made her look a whole lot sexier. Even though she left I hope that Wade returns some day, even if it is just as a guest star in a episode. But until then she will surely be missed.

Althought Maggie is much more attractive. I believe Quinn and Wade have had sparks for each other since the series began and I still believe in that interest. After all they have been through, How can their love fade with the replacement of a new character such as Maggie.

Off the subject I am greatly saddened by the fate professor Arturo was dealt and I will miss his intelectual accent and his philosophical mumbo-jumbo. Good luck professor wherever you are.

After reading the various replies and laughing like a hyena (yes, I do watch animal planet and know they don't laugh) I have one, well many comments. First Borg boy...I cannot believe you liked that bad hair color. TO the rest of the intelligent people, I am completely heartened and amused by the vehemence you all show! ( of course, the Wade and Maggie person is just ill, or a barely postpubescent male). My hubby and I were reading the replies and I personally am relieved to know it is "NOT JUST ME" who despises the Maggie character. I enjoyed the "point blank range" utterly. Alas, as temporalflux (who seems to be VERY knowledgeable re: the show) has commented, we can all just waste away with longing and hope that Sabrina doesn't become the Denise Crosby (sorry Yar fan) of the Sliders cast. There was another totally cool female character whose "actress owner" seriously screwed up. Sabrina, my best to you and please keep an option open for the series. Maybe Maggie will die (intense salivation) and whatever the source of strife between you and the series Powers That Be be blasted into a Kromagg universe.

Okay, now someone mentioned before how Maggie was whiney and annoying. Can I just say I don't even think so. Wade, with her irritating squeaky voice. Wade was alright, I'm not saying she was bad, but I don't understand why everyone absolutely hates Maggie. Wade dressed the exact same way as Maggie, only Maggie has a curvier body. And, in the episode(don't remember the name) Where they follow Rickman back the earth where Maggie's people are Wade was such a bitch towards Maggie and she didn't say anything to her, even though she could probably kick her ass(due to the fact she was in the military and all) Maggie is not that bad, and for anyone who think she is trying to take the place of Wade by trying to cheer up Remmy, well why the hell wouldn't she. He's a friend, so I guess if Quin was trying to make him feel better he would also be trying to take Wade's place. Your all so worried about Maggie taking Wade's place, most of you agree that with better writting she could be a better character, but when she tries to be nice, it's "she's replacing Wade," or "Wade was so much better." Why is everyone comparing her to Wade, why can't she just be her own character?

I would have to say that i would say that Maggie is much better than Wade 3 reasons why. #1 Wade was way to shy and she was willing to take that risk like the others took. #2 She was to chicken to do some of the stuff that the Maggie did. And #3 Maggie is much much better looking than Wade. So that answers your question.

well, i love sliders, an i loved the original cast.
and i always was ancient to see wade and quinn together, but
this didn´t really happen. on the other hand this offered
always the opportunity that one day they´ll get together.
but when they all left there´s little from the
former "chemistry" within the group, they made up a great team...
well for this question WADE is my favorite as i do not
agree to change the characters. the initial characters started
on eartch prime and they hat the objective to return, so
these four should keep together and return one day...

Wade is definitely better than Maggie. Not that I have anything against Maggie, but Wade brought something to the show that has been sorely missing since she left- the wide-eyed "wow" approach to sliding. Quinn and the professor were the scientific ones, Maggie was all about killing Rickman, and Remmy is now all about killing Kromaggs. While they are all explorers, Wade seemed to be the one most excited by the prospect of exploring parallel worlds. Watch the Pilot. Her "Cool!" reaction to the wormhole never faded. Out of all the characters, Wade connected to the audience the best- not really understanding scientific sliding, but stoked to see all the new worlds.

Interesting. Like some others, I came in on Sliders while it was still on Fox. Unfortunately, I lost interest the first time around. I did not like the mix of the characters. Both Wade and the Professor annoyed me; I thought both of their characters were weak, and had the least development. I wonder if that is why they both left the show ...

But I liked season 4 and started watching again on the SFC. I thought the mix of characters was just right, especially Maggie. As was mentioned by someone else, I think she lent a strength to the team that no one else had. Unfortunately, although I liked the character chemistry, the stories started to degenerate into "hey, we're four friends sliding around" instead of "we're trying to get through this dangerous journey to get home." Even worse now, season 5 is "we're sliding around for no particular reason." I mean, honestly, Rembrandt is the only one trying to get home any more, and he doesn't seem if he particularly cares. Why not just pick a decent world and stay on it at this point? Or why not turn the show into a Kromagg resistance? They need to do something radical, in my opinion, if the show stays on.

About Wade ... I initially disliked Wade without understanding why that was more due to the 1st season breakup between her and Quinn. It resulted in that awkward situation of "Yeah, we broke up, but crap, we still have to stick around each other." There was no way around it; they still had to slide to each world together.

So there was that constant Wade and Quinn tension (they kind of pick at each other all the way through the 1st episodes of season 2), which I found irritating. But I hung in there, continuing to watch the replays on the SFC. By mid-season 2, they smoothed out their relationship, while they are still very protective of each other.

So I like Wade now as well and appreciate her character more now as I watched the show develop. It's too bad they just seem to put her in the "damsel in distress" mode so often. Wade and Maggie were similar in that they both have strong, impulsive natures, but Maggie is a stronger character. She often is in a position to act when put in danger (witness last week's episode) vs. Wade, who often times is having to be rescued by the others.

On a totally different note, I really miss Quinn in season 5 ... I don't know that I miss his character so much as his leadership for the team. I hope that Mallory eventually comes to lead the team instead of Rembrandt; I would like to explore his character more, at least.

...although I'm not really qualified to make a judgement on Maggie, since I mostly stopped watching Sliders after that awful zombie episode 3rd season. (Did anyone else think that was one of the worst?) I thought the first season was great, but then it started to go downhill from there...the writers just seemed to be trying to think of the most ridiculous scenarios they possibly could. And then when they started to fiddle with the character interaction (especially the addition of Maggie...the very idea annoyed me just because she seemed like she was supposed to be a replacement for Wade), I switched my loyalties to X-Files. <g>

But in S3 when the cast went GQ,She went from sweet little wade to Slutty stoker Wade.

FUTURE. right now season five is almost over. i will tell

quinn is morphed into an alternate quinns body and his brother is now unstuck. o k i bet you have no idea what im
talking about but quinn(JOC) is now off the show. i know
your thinking "back up the soul train" why is quinn off the
show well thats because either he didnt like doing it and
quit or was fired. now you probably dont know who his brother is well its his real life brother and in the show
brother. he was on season 4 but is now unstuck which means
that he will keep sliding alone for the rest of his life
with no timer.

our beloved friend that we care so much about has returned
for one last episode. yes for all of those who said wade wells.now here is what happened we all know that wade is in

remmey was being brought to her by her new powers. ok

a case type thing and her head is in a thing of water and
you can see some of her brain and her body is under the glass case in a non see through case.it is very sad to see this if you loved wade as much as i do.
but now to answer your question. i think that wade and quinn
should have got together. i loved wade so much. i wished
that i was really quinn mallory and could have someone like
wade in my life. i miss her and quinn very much.

if anyone is to read this here is proof that i am from the

2-27-98. the reply date will probably say 9-20-99 because
computers have internal clocks in them and will say the
date that it is sent.
