Online JOC Interview Not True

In the article, the following is stated:
"During his junior year at NYU film school (for sreenwriting),
Jerry decided to try out for two TV pilots: Sliders and a new Fox show
called Party of Five. He spent a single day in L.A. and landed the Bailey
role in Party, but before he could get back to New York, the studio's
first choice for Sliders backed out. Stuck a day before shooting without
a lead, they begged Jerry to fill in. The rest is teen-idol history.
'Isn't that funny?'" O'Connell asks. 'And every time I see Scott,
I laugh.'"
I e-mailed all of this to both Tracy Torme' and Robert K. Weiss in
an attempt to find who the original actor for Quinn was. Here are the
responses:
Weiss:
"Total BS! Nobody backed out at the last minute.
Keep Sliding,
Bob"
Torme':
"No, that story isn't true. Jerry was on board weeks and weeks
before the pilot was shot - attended many rehearsels, etc. No one else
was ever offered the part."

Eric
Stoltz

From: Slider_Dee
I "heard" on the 'net that Eric Stoltz was the "original"
Quinn.
I had also "heard" that Jerry tried out for 2 roles, Party
of Five and Sliders, but that he only got Sliders. (That is, he was
never offered a part on Party of Five).
Just goes to show, especially on the internet, one must pay attention
to sources.
I'm inclined to believe that Jerry never was offered Party of Five
and that he was the only actor ever cast as Quinn -- that is, no backing
out by Eric Stoltz.
Wonder why the past is being re-edited ......

Some
people are so gullible.

From: Real_Slider
Slider_dee, I can tell you where you read about Eric Stoltz being the
original Quinn. I posted that under the original E! Online article thread....
AS A JOKE!
Eric Stoltz was actually the original Marty McFly, and most of "Back
to the Future" was shot with him before he was replaced by Michael
J. Fox. This is no joke, and you can see pictures of Stotlz as Marty
(and read articles about it) at bttf.com.
And that "gullible" comment? Wasn't meant as an insult. Just
means you should consider the source before giving it credence.

world because there was no men there and he could easily get a date
was popping up in too many interviews . JOC's got a new piece of rubbish
to regurgitate in interviews .stax

Eric Stoltz was the original Marty McFly in BTTF btw... probably what
you are thinking of Dee.

What
else has jerry said that was a lie?

That's pretty bad to make up things so you can have a good story to
tell. He probable thought the fans were to stupid to catch his lie.
Thanks TF for checking EGO O'Connell's story.

Ques:
Why would he lie about something..
Date: 03/15/2000
From: Afl
...like this? That doesn't make sense. If he was the first and only
Quinn chosen, then why would he say this Scott Wolf was originally offered
the job. Wouldn't it suit this so-called "EGO" you guys keep
wanting to place on him, for him to just say he was the ONLY person
who they wanted to play Quinn?
I don't know about you, but this seems to be taken out of context.
Say what you will..."Oh...AfL, you are living in a dream world."
Fine. Think that if you will, but the fact is...the paragraph before
Jerry's quote was something E! Online wrote and just SAID that quote
was in response to that! I have seen more info goofs in online articles
than totally accurate ones. How about the article that said Jerry was
from New Jersey? WHAT?!?! Where did they get their information??? He's
from NYC!!! Grew up in Greenwich Village...AND I heard it from Jerry's
own mouth on Conan when Body Shots was the movie he was plugging.
So until I hear the same thing about him being the second choice for
Quinn from Jerry's own mouth in some interview...I'm going to reserve
my opinion on this one.
I step down from my soap box.
AfL
P.S. The Enquirer and Star have interesting "put words in the
celebrities mouth" too. But do we believe even half the stuff the
print in those things? NO!

And
one more thing.

From: Afl
In regards to the "taking things out of context" point AND
taking into consideration whether or not all this information has even
some small truth in it, do we know the whole story??? NO!
*IF* these statements were made by Jerry, Bob Weiss, AND Tracy Torme,
I'd like to hear the WHOLE story in a TV interview--from their OWN mouths--before
I pass judgement.
Because like I said, this whole thing could have been taken completely
out of context and misconstrued.

Well...
Date: 03/15/2000
From: TemporalFlux
Before you condemn me...all I did here was present the facts. I didn't
say who fabricated what...just that it wasn't true (and it's not true...unless
you think both RK and Torme' would lie when directly asked).
With that said...I can easily see two ways this would feed Mr. O'Connell's
ego.
1 - Jerry saying that he originally had Scott Wolf's role on a much
more popular show...and that Scott only got Jerry's hand me downs. I.e.
Jerry was the one for the role...Scott just got it by default. Therefore,
Jerry is the same caliber as the Party of Five cast.
2 - This one is more obvious. How would it feed Jerry's ego to say
that Sliders production had to *beg* him to take the role. That's a
hell of a lot more of a personal ego boost than just saying "Yeah...I
auditioned and got the part."
As for out of context...why else would Jerry be laughing every time
he saw Scott? I mean...if Jerry auditioned for the part and didn't get
it...why would that cause ironic laughter? It doesn't make sense...the
only option for that quote that really does make sense to me is the
story they gave. Now...could the quote be fabricated? Sure...but E would
be setting themselves up for some serious legal consequences to fabricate
a quote like that. That's alot different than just placing up a story.
And I don't think they would want to go there...not for a fluff piece
like that article.
All I know is...Jerry has vividly and actively stretched the truth
beyond the bounds of breaking before (the October AOL chat just to name
a more blatant example). He also had the motive for his ego (if you
look at it in that context).
Is that to say he lied here? No...but in my mind, he was certainly
capable of it...and there's more to show that he did lie here than there
is to show that he didn't.
