RealRealSlider coming up with a new insult??? Too difficult for anyone
to believe!!
Seriously, though, bang-up job. Mind if I speculate on a few of them?
If Columbus had never discovered America, someone else would have,
obviously. What's really key here is, without Columbus who would have
discovered it, what nationality would they represent and where would
they land? These seemingly minute questions would in fact result in
a completely different America, not just the U.S., but from Canada
down to Argentina.
If there had been a U.S.-German alliance in World War I, where would
the U.S. have sent troops? The U.S. navy would have had to pull overtime
destroying the British and French navies, and probably would not have
succeeded. So in short, Germany would have probably still lost and
we might have ended up with a Hitler at the helm as well.
If the Oregon Territory had never been broken up, there would probably
be about two extra states made out of British Columbia. Of course,
I'm sure Canadians would hate to not have a Pacific port city (wouldn't
you?), but it could have happened. There also probably would have been
more interest in getting Alaska away from the Russians. (Hey, and Vancouver
would be in the U.S.!)
