ToFGaL Round 2 Ratings

From: Brand_S

Okay, so I completely forgot about this until today. Sorry! I was meaning to take care of this sooner, but you all know how I am.

RMScream vs. Blinker

Ratings:
RMScream: 9.5 - 8 - 4 - 10 - 10
Blinker: 9 - 10 - 8 - 10 - 8

RMScream = 8.3
Blinker = 9

Now, RM, in that true fashion of his, did ONE EXCELLENT JOB. Personally, I thought he performed as well as Blink. I did the fifth set of ratings, and I took a couple points off because Blink was late, and, as one of the judges said, "illegal MST3K defense against Blinker. It's an invincible strategy when you're as good at it as Blinker is." Nevertheless, since I'm actually NOT being AS BIASED this round, I got overruled and Blink won. Sorry, Ry Ry!

Comments:
· "I'd like to see a rematch. Both very good."
RMScream:
· "Fun story perhaps, but no flame."
· "Such a cute, smart, handsome stud, and he knows what every woman wants and how to get it and..." Oh, wait, that judge was talking about ME.
Blinker:
· "Good flame, but had the advantage of going last. Plays on 'RM' were fun."

Slider_Quinn21 vs. DMD

Ratings:
Slider_Quinn21: 9 - 6 - 7.5 - 8.5 - 9
DieselMickeyDolenz: 9.5 - 10 - 9 - 9 - 9

Slider_Quinn21 = 8
DieselMickeyDolenz = 9.3

Well, I thought both competitors did an excellent job here, but the other four judges felt DMD's job was MORE EXCELLENT, so this round goes to him.

Comments:
Slider_Quinn21:
· "SliderQuinn may have a future in flaming, but the future is not yet here."
· "Not a bad story; some good flames."
· "SQ21 was very good..."
DieselMickeyDolenz:
· "... DMD was better."
· "Continued the story; some very good flames and retorts. Provided the best two words of the competition so far: Premature ejaculation."

SpaceTime vs. SL4ever

Ratings:
SpaceTime: 10 - 10 - 9/0 - 9.5 - 10
SL4ever: 10 - 9 - 8.5/10 - 9.7 - 9

SpaceTime = 9.7/7.9
SL4ever = 9.24/9.54

As you can see, I was caught in something of a pickle here. Capaqu, the great shunee herself, couldn't decide whether to praise the man of her dreams for his flaming ability, or to counter-shun in response to the initial shun. Seeing as how I haven't made a single wisecrack about rubber anal rape, a collage of SpaceTime pictures sitting on some shower stall, or the "Trailer of Doom" in about a week, I think I'm handling this well. Because I'd rather have peace, love, and understanding between the judges and the flamers, I think I'm gonna go with the first set of ratings. I find it annoying that I was left with the choice of whether or not Cappy counter-shunned, and I feel like I'm simultaneously condoning, supporting, and deriding Space's shunning, but such is the price of the head judge, I guess.

Why did I pick the way I did? I just liked SpaceTime's flames better. I never had SL4ever's "refined" sense of humor. I did, after all, laugh my ass off at the first half of "Me, Myself, & Irene." (Okay, so I just PAUSED IT FOR 15 MINUTES EVERY TIME SHANNON WHIRRY CAME ON THE SCREEN. Whut're YOU gonna do about it?) Don't mess with a guy who thinks the Farrelly brothers are funny, man!

Comments:
· "DAMMMITTTTTT I can't decide. ... Too many words. Both awesome."
· "This was a very close match. I almost had to get out the specs. So much to read. They really turned up the torch."
SpaceTime:
· "ST entertained me more and that's what it's all
about."
SL4ever:
· "SL4 came out storming but ST knocked the wind out of him. It took SL4 a few posts to recover."
· "Good attack on ST, did lots of research."
· "I've been SHUNNED and because I love the fact that SL presented the whiny temper tantrums."

Now, only three people really made it to the next round: Blinker, DieselMickeyDolenz, and SpaceTime. Because I granted Blinker an extension (which is totally out-of-character of me because I NEVER extend for another male), and because RM didn't know Blink was gonna show, I've been fairly ambivalent about what to do. There was also pretty big demand for a rematch. I'm not going to do a rematch (yet), but because RM lost on a technicality, I am gonna bring him back in the tourney. I need that fourth slot filled. While SL4ever probably deserves it more, he did lose fair and square (at least, as fair as Cappy's decision on whether to shun can get); RM's in more of a position to file a lawsuit, if ya get my drift. Besides, I REALLY REALLY want to see RM throw down with Space. So, here are the matches for the next round:

SpaceTime vs. RMScream
DieselMickeyDolenz vs. Blinker

If enough people are mad that RM's moving on and SL isn't, I'd be happy to schedule a bonus round to decide once and for all. ToFGaL Round 3 will begin SOON.

Okay...
*Someone* seems to be singling me out here! Now, hmmm, who could that be?????

Anyway...
I like your choices. I gave double scores for ST/SL for the SOLE purpose of confusing you and forcing YOU to make a decision! <smirk> ;)

And... <gasp>... dare I say it?
Will he deny it?

SpaceTime has actually communicated with me recently!!

Ah... he probably *will* deny it; but I know better!

Cheers,
cappy

Can't say that I'm surprised... ;-)

Well, I'm actually glad that I didn't win for two reasons...

1.I would've had to have been put against Blink. And how could I flame the guy who's been helping me so much???

2.DMD is the MAN! Go get 'em!

your posts reach 8,000 words in round 3.

Choose either one of the following:

Option 1

Life... is like a box of chocolates. A cheap, thoughtless, perfunctory gift that nobody ever asks for. Unreturnable, because all you get back is another box of chocolates. You're stuck with this undefinable whipped-mint crap that you mindlessly wolf down when there's nothing else left to eat. Sure, once in a while, there's a peanut butter cup, or an English toffee. But they're gone too fast, the taste is fleeting. So you end up with nothing but broken bits, filled with hardened jelly and teeth-crunching nuts, and if you're desperate enough to eat those, all you've got left is a... is an empty box... filled with useless, brown paper wrappers.
~~~ CSM from Musings of a Cigarette Smoking Man
Using the quote above from "The X-Files", discuss whether or not this is a cynical view of life. Use specific examples from "Sliders". 8,000 word minimum.
Option 2
Discuss using specific examples from various Sliders episodes Wade's relationship with Quinn, Rembrandt, Arturo and Maggie as well as those who they interacted with such as Derek, Ryan, Michele, Henry, etc. 8,000 word minimum.
This is my one and only warning since all the previous ones I've given have gone unheeded.
Good evening.
Just moments ago, I didn’t speak with Spacetime but if I had I would have congratulated him on becoming a third round participant of the ToFGaL. – and unlike that sore loser Al Gore I would have promised him that I wouldn't call him back and take it back.
If I had spoken with him, I would have offered to meet with him as soon as possible so that we can start to heal the divisions of the vicious flaming campaign which we just passed.
Almost a century and a half ago, Senator Stephen Douglas (ph) told Abraham Lincoln, who had just defeated him for the presidency, ``Partisan feeling must yield to patriotism. I'm with you, Mr. President, and God bless you.''
Well, in that same spirit, I say to Spacetime that what remains of partisan rancor must now be put aside, and may God bless him as a Sliders fan and good luck in future rounds.
Neither he nor I anticipated this long and difficult road. Certainly neither of us wanted it to happen. Yet it came, and now it has ended, resolved, as it must be resolved, through the honored institutions of our bboard.
Now the judging panel has spoken. The shunning issue has been resolved, and a decision has been made. Let there be no doubt, while I strongly disagree with the judge's decision, I accept it. I accept the finality of this outcome. And tonight, for the sake of our unity as Sliders fans, I offer my concession.
Blah, blah blah. You get the idea. Gore kept talking for another five minutes but I think I’ve squeezed as much out of that idea as I could.
Good match Spacetime. Personally, I thought I kicked your >:-# but I accept the decision. As the rating numbers show, it really could have gone either way. As unashamedly biased as Brand_S is, I don’t think anyone can say there wasn’t a legitimate case for you winning so I don’t think it was a biased decision. As I said at the time (lo those many days ago) I enjoyed it a lot. You were a good sport throughout all the mind games leading up to our match, and I have to be honest and say that I didn’t expect you to be. I expected you to hold a grudge. I was pleasantly surprised to see that you didn’t. Good luck in the future rounds. Maybe we'll lock horns again some time. :-P
One thing that has risen from all this is that I have a list of people I’d love to meet one on one in a Flaming Cage Match. 24-48 hours of toe to toe, no holds barred, all out flaming back to the stone age. I’ll issue some duel challenges after I finish with this stupid Furniture Market job which is sucking up all my time right now and see if anyone takes me up on it. :-D
Whew...
'Twas a good match indeed, my friend. And, interestingly enough, you were involved in my first Dominion flame, so it only stands to reason you be part of my GREATEST BATTLE:
For the record, I'm not RealSlider or SciFiWatcher. ;-)
Until we meet again, chief.
I wish I could have gotten you to officially admit you were Twiz BEFORE the round! Boy, I had some GREAT stuff under that handle I could have used against you!!! :-P~~~~~~~
Sadly, I couldn’t track down confirmation I could link to. You nominating his post for Eust's site wasn't good enough. >:-#, >:-#, >:-#
I'm not Twizzler!
I'm *darkslider.* 7:-P
Actually, if you'd asked TemporalFlux, QBall79, Blinker or any of the other old farts, they could've told you what you'd guessed. I thought BvE had made it clear, in any case.
Oh, wait. You didn't read BvE. ;-)
Peace,
ST
Thanks for a great round, Quinn. I wasn't at all sure that I'd won. Now I've got to go up against Blinker. Better put on my asbestos funderoos.
